Director of Engineering - Remote East Coast US

About Syrup

šŸŒ In a world with deep supply chain disruptions, true omni-channel networks, and sustainability-minded consumers, there is a need for next-generation inventory systems.

šŸÆ Thatā€™s why we are building Syrup, an AI-powered predictive software platform for inventory decisions in commerce. By leveraging more data in real-time, we empower merchandising and planning teams with allocation, ordering, and inventory management recommendations.

šŸš€ Our mission is for commerce to no longer be a wasteful industry, as our intelligent platform empowers inventory excellence at every step in the value chain.

šŸ‘” We're VC-backed by Google's AI fund (Gradient Ventures), as well as former executives from Adidas, Zalando, ASOS, Reebok, Bonobos, Salesforce, ThredUp, and Stripe. We're working with fast-growing brands such as Faherty, Reformation, and Desigual.

About The Role

As Director of Engineering at Syrup, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our technology organization and driving the growth of our engineering group. This role presents a unique opportunity to build, lead, and mentor a world-class technology team that will define the future of our AI-powered inventory platform. You will collaborate closely with product management, cross-functional teams, and company leadership to deliver on engineering goals, refine processes, and ensure the successful execution of both short and long-term product development milestones.

You Will:

  • Engineering Excellence: You will drive the development of technology, processes, and structures to ensure we have an extensible, scalable platform. Youā€™ll own the delivery of critical new platform components and capabilities. You will implement best practices to support outstanding reliability and quality. You will streamline operations, and drive efficiency and cohesion within the engineering organization.

  • Team Development: You will mentor and coach team leads and individual contributors to support outstanding collaboration, execution and career growth. Our overall engineering organization will at least double to 40-50 engineers in the next 12-18 months, and this role is critical to supporting our scalability.

  • Strategic Decision-Making: Collaborate with company leadership and have broad authority to identify and drive key decisions that impact the long-term success of Syrup.tech's engineering efforts.

  • Project Oversight: You will drive initiatives that span the full engineering team. Oversee multiple teams responsible for platform infrastructure development with the goal of accelerating application feature delivery and driving system scalability and reliability.

  • Innovation: You will foster a culture of innovation and creativity, enabling the team to research new technologies, validate novel approaches, and develop innovative solutions while delivering on near-term enhancements.

  • Collaboration: You will work flexibly with other engineering leaders towards shared success. You will work within cross-functional leadership teams that include partners, Customer Success, Product Management, and Analytics to maximize collective potential and achieve outstanding results.

You Have:

  • Significant experience of at least 15 years delivering impactful large-scale data-centric SaaS products, ideally in an enterprise B2B space. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and proven leadership experience in a fast-paced startup environment. You have successfully built new products from the ground up and led critical cross-team initiatives.

  • Led teams to make the hard calls between building it fast and building for the longer-term. You have strong technical judgment and know when to step in and when to delegate. You have a bias for action and are self-directed.

  • At least 4 years of relevant hands-on experience in machine learning, data processing, or application development (see our open engineering roles for details).
