The Special Programs, Evaluations, Assessments & Response (SPEAR) Team is seeking an experienced and talented systems development engineer to join our security engineering team. This position is responsible for designing and supporting enterprise-scale infrastructure. You will work extensively within AWS tools and services to create highly scalable, fault tolerant systems. You will not only create, but also review technical documentation written by your peers. You will help program tools to increase the efficiency of our partner teams. You will work within a team of experienced engineers and security professionals to improve the security posture of Amazon sites across the globe! This role is remotely based and requires travel, amounting to 15% on average.
Key job responsibilities
A System Development Engineer is responsible for building and supporting tools and workflows that safeguard and automate operational success. This may include creating production hardware management workflows and tools, test cluster orchestration setup, and performance benchmarking environments. You’ll dive deep into operational issues and propose technical and cultural changes to retain and improve the customer experience.
Other responsibilities include being an active reviewer of the team’s technology solutions and operations and helping new teammates understand the team’s customers, systems, and processes. You will also be responsible for thoroughly diagnosing problems in all aspects of operations, including hardware, software, and operating environments.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $103,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
