Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Cybersecurity Engineer with expertise in device security, with a specifc focus on devices with cellular functionality. This will include Apple and Android phones, hotspots, trackers, and modems.
The Cybersecurity Engineer will lead efforts in technical security assessments, vulnerability testing, and remediation of issues. The role focuses on developing and maintaining security requirements and ensuring compliance with them through internal and external testing. Extensive collaboration with partner teams and vendors is essential to be successful in this role. The intent of this role is to prevent security issues on devices that may negatively impact T-Mobile customers, brand, and infrastructure.
The ideal candidate excels in dynamic, fast-paced environments and brings a deep passion for security, telecom, and advanced problem-solving. This is a hands on role and you will be expected to be able to work with hardware and systems in lab environments on top of program management duties.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the SME for T-Mobile’s device security requirements. Maintain and update requirements as necessary, fully understand them, and ensure compliance with them across our product portfolio.
  • Serve as the SME for device security issues and assist teams in solving problems that arise. This includes triaging problems, designing solutions, validating fixes, and ensuring fixes are deployed properly. This can include communicating with customers occasionally.
  • Manage 3rd party pen-tests on devices. This includes setting pen-test scope, serving as liaison between T-Mobile, device vendor, and pen-test vendor, providing hardware and test supplies, and general management of the engagement.
  • Perform hands on security testing of new devices and hands on validation of fixes for issues. This involves setting up devices in a lab and looking for / validating security issues that have been resolved. Basically, end-to-end security delivery on products in scope.
  • Develop and maintain automated scripts and tools to streamline device security validation processes, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with security standards.
  • Develop documentation for vendors and device teams on implementing security properly.
  • Keep up with industry standards such as CTIA and 3GPP and drive compliance across our product portfolio
  • Support Ad-hoc projects related to hardware and device security. This includes setting up and testing network equipment, IoT devices, and embedded systems.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing cyber lab infrastructure and tooling

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree, Computer Science, or Information Technology. Equivalent experience in lieu of degree may be considered.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years’ Experience in info security technology or related field.
  • Hands on development or pen testing experience with embedded / IoT devices and Linux systems; understanding of the various attack surfaces including physical, network, and web.
  • Familiarity or experience with running 3rd party the pen-test engagements for devices
  • Experience with reverse engineering tools such as Ghidra or IDA Pro
  • Familiarity with Burp Suite
  • Proficient in use of Oscilloscopes or logic analyzers, serial / UART, JTAG, and basic EE knowledge
  • Basic coding and scripting skills, including Python, Shell and Perl.
  • Experience with modems and AT commands
  • Basic understanding of 4G/5G Telecommunications systems, including Access, Packet Core, and IMS Core.
  • knowledge of cloud environments, and containerized applications.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate internally, upward, and cross functionally; ability to collaborate with cross-functional team members to gain support required to accomplish assignments; able to build coalitions.
  • Strong problem solving / troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks to complete independently; Ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines.
  • Presentation skills to large and small audiences.

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional, (CISSP and/or CCSK and/or CCSP and/or CISA/CISM certification)

Base Pay Range: $79,900 - $144,100

Corporate Bonus Target: 15%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
