As a backend engineer, you’ll have an opportunity to design services that qualify customers for service, provide insight into operational issues, perform geospatial analysis, optimize database performance, and more.In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to grow as a developer, guide technical direction and culture, and regularly make an impact by contributing features into production. And lots of tests to accompany them. Work in production systems and know how to safely navigate them. Diagnose performance issues and work with the SRE team and product owners to resolve. Assist product owners to flesh out the product backlog, refine user stories/tasks, and help identify blockers/dependencies. Provide operational support as needed, graciously supporting technical and non-technical end users with any issues they run into. Work with product owners to maintain clear/concise documentation of features and releases. Develop/maintain positive working relationships with both the technical teams (product owner, developers, and TPMs) and non-technical teams. Mentor and assist less experienced peers. Be capable of acting as development lead on features/products.Strong candidates will have…Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or related field. 7+ years professional experience as a software engineer/developer working on a backend stack involving APIs and/or databases. 3+ years developing applications using Javascript (or variant of). 5+ years experience delivering software using agile methodologies such as SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, etc within a team of 3 or more. Familiarity with modern software development, including different agile methodologies, various testing concepts, and continuous delivery/deployment.You may be a good fit if…We use NodeJS/Javascript and Go with a few other languages peppered in, but if you have the ability to think about systems and processes you’ll fit in regardless of language. Have strong opinions about building ergonomic, developer-friendly APIs. Are allergic to premature abstractions and over-designed systems. You believe perfection is defined as not the point in which there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. Have experience managing and developing resilient, highly-available systems. Have experience identifying performance bottlenecks and security issues. Understand data design and best practices when persisting, updating, and surfacing data to systems and end users. Can work autonomously when needed without excessive supervision. Possess strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to identify/analyze/synthesize product use data and use to drive decisions. Experience with agile backlog/project management tools such as Jira/Asana/GitHub Issues/etc. Are comfortable communicating to a wide array of technical and non-technical audiences, including executives. Love collaboration and developing positive working relationships with both the technical team and non-technical teams, including frontline support, marketing, product management, sales, and finance. Believe the highest priority, and most effective/efficient delivery process for the team, is early and continuous/uninterrupted release of working software.
