TCLA Academy Writer (Future Trainee/Trainee)

The Company

Hey - I’m Jaysen. I run The Corporate Law Academy or ‘TCLA’. It's the largest forum in the legal profession.

The goal is simple: school and university teach you theory. The legal world requires a different set of skills, like clear writing and speaking, or an understanding of the financial world. We’re building Khan Academy for the working world to bridge the gap between the two.

Our forum is big. We get up over 2,000 posts a week between September and February, 60,000 monthly active users and a 9 minute average engagement time. We care a lot about fostering a community, because the legal journey is tough, and it’s only made easier if you’re surrounded by people who lift each other up.

We support these students and graduates through a variety of commercial training.

The Role

We’re hiring a future trainee, trainee or associate to join our team. This role is focussed on our latest product: TCLA Academy, which is designed to build the commercial awareness of aspiring lawyers.

Given the nature of your stage, you can tell us how long you'd like to work this role for. Ideally, it would be more than six months, but we can flexible.

This role is pretty unique:

  • 2.5 hours per day requirement (Monday to Friday).
  • Each day, you identify three articles that a future lawyer should know about.
  • You summarise those articles. You can use AI to help, but the test is whether it's well written and exciting to read.
  • You draft 10-15 quiz questions based on the article. These can be image-based numerical, commercial, case study questions or multiple choice. The goal is it should prepare an aspiring lawyer for an interview on this topic.
  • You will also share suggestions for how to improve the platform and post daily updates to our community.

What we care the most about:

  • You must be a future trainee, trainee solicitor or associate.
  • You can dedicate two hours each day to this role, from Monday to Friday.
  • You love to write and you should pride yourself in the quality of your writing.
  • You have an outstanding level of commercial awareness. You already keep up to date with the commercial news because you enjoy it. You could happily chat about what law firms are doing, what you know about M&A, and how you feel about the current state of the financial markets.
  • You enjoy explaining technical concepts simply, from bonds to EBITDA.
  • You enjoy iterating on your questions to help aspiring lawyers become more commercially aware.
  • You are excited to engage with aspiring lawyers and future trainees using the platform to develop their commercial awareness.

Why join us?

This role is remote and flexible. You choose the times in which you work each day, provided you complete your two hours.

You'll have fun in this role. It's a perfect opportunity for someone who wants to be paid to do something they genuinely enjoy.

The best part of working for TCLA is that we see the real impact we have on our members day to day. We care deeply about sharing the most valuable information we find to people who haven’t otherwise had access to this information.

You'll be in an environment where you’re appreciated and valued. Our most common feedback is the best part of working for TCLA is the team. We work hard, care about what we do and care about each other.

Finally, we pride ourselves on being kind and authentic. We’ll bend over backwards to make sure you are heard and supported.
