Job Summary for the Property Accountant:

Reporting to the Property Accounting Manager, the Property Accountant will be responsible for journal entries, bank reconciliations, financial statement preparation, accounts receivable and daily and monthly cash disbursements and receipts.

This position is Hybrid:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday in office. 
Wednesday, Friday work from home
*with some flexibility 

Essential Functions Essential Responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Works in conjunction with business office managers to prepare monthly financial statements for assigned communities for distribution to senior management, lenders, and investors
  • Works in conjunction with business office managers to ensure accuracy of community receivables, payable, deposits and cash disbursements
  • Prepares monthly financial reports
  • Compile financial statements and portfolios for joint venture and third party outside owners
  • Prepare month end close for each respective property
  • Prepare and post journal entries as required
  • Reviews Balance Sheets and Income Statements per property to verify account balances and reasonable revenue and expense amounts
  • Review payables committed for bi-weekly check runs for assigned communities
  • Initiates wires and ACH upon instruction from the Accounting Manager; notifies the Accounting Manager when completed so that the funds can be released
  • Responsible for final move out accounting for past residents
  • Responsible for last month’s rent deposit cash and liability balance reconciliations
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts
  • Manage and complete general ledger journal entries and cash balances
  • Ensures accuracy of all general ledger information
  • Informs management as to any discrepancies or any other problem areas that may exist that arise from an audit
  • Meets Accounting Department calendar deadlines
  • Responsible for backing up the Accounts Payable function and supporting the Accounting Specialist as needed
  • Special projects as requested by Property Accounting Manager

Specific Educational/Vocational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Will consider Associates degree with relevant experience.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting software; Yardi Voyager preferred.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Competent with the Microsoft Windows Office Suite (Word, Excel, and other software programs as needed)
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism
  • The ability to work independently and in a group environment
  • Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Must pass criminal background check
