Summer 2024 Internship (Lawmaker Engagement)

LOCATION: Remote, with no expected travel.

COMPENSATION: $22 per hour worked.

HOURS: All TSP Summer Interns are required to work core hours of 11am - 3pm EST, Monday - Friday.

Position Summary:

The goal of the Internship Program is to provide a well-rounded experience for interns that provides an opportunity to see the impact of your work. We are committed to setting interns up for success by providing training opportunities where you develop a well-rounded set of hard & soft skills. As an intern, you will gain valuable educational experience in politics and policy at the state legislative level, and will be provided with opportunities to make connections with past cohorts and partners to support the development of your career. This summer, we are looking for an intern to gain experience with the following team: 

Lawmaker Engagement Team: This team works to make it easier for state lawmakers to improve lives by developing tools and resources designed specifically for the context of state legislatures. Their policy work is based on evidence and research, and responsive to the unique needs of state lawmakers.

What You Will Do
  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting research as assigned by the Lawmaker Engagement team
  • Supporting the development and delivery of policy resources and lawmaker programming
  • Monitoring policy and legislative trends and priorities
  • Supporting the various verticals within the Lawmaker Engagement team

What We Offer:

Interns are paid $22 per hour worked, and accrue paid time off in accordance with our employee handbook and applicable state and local laws. We will work with you to help you obtain school credit where applicable. All internship opportunities will be remote. Interns are expected to commit up to 20 hours per week (generally during standard U.S. business hours) from June 13th, 2024 through August 30th, 2024.

What You Can Expect During the Recruitment and Hiring Process:

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Selected applicants will be moved forward to phone screening. The next step is a virtual team interview, accompanied by a written exercise. Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, May 17th, 2024. To be considered a complete  application, one must include a resume and have answered the five Pre-Application questions below. The latter must include why you are interested in working at The States Project. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
