Theatre Technical Operations Fellowship - Forbes Center

The Forbes Center fellowship provides advanced, hands-on training in technical operations management for recent college graduates and early career professionals.

Under the mentorship of the Production Services Manager and the Technical and Operations Coordinator the fellow works side by side on over 200 performances and events per year and is given hands on experience in operating a professional performing arts venue.

The fellowship begins September 3rd, 2023 and runs through May 12, 2024. The fellowship requires a season-long commitment.

The fellow will receive a stipend total of $15,225 for the 36 week contract, which will be paid in increments bi-weekly. The fellow will not work more than 40 hours per week with an average of 29 hours per week across the season with no benefits. Housing and benefits are not included.

Mentored by the Production Services Manager and the Technical and Operations Coordinator, the fellow will set up and operate sound, lighting and staging equipment for a variety of professional and university productions. The fellow will participate in equipment maintenance, advancing events, purchasing and inventory management. Daily activities may include event prep, show running, hospitality assistance, general maintenance, and basic support for office operations. Work hours will be irregular and include early morning, evening, and weekend calls.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with theatrical lighting including ETC instruments and lighting consoles. Experience with audio equipment including wireless microphones is preferred. An undergraduate degree in the arts is preferred.

This position will not work more than 40 hours per week with an average of 29 hours per week across the season. This position will end by May 12, 2024 and is not eligible for benefits.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

Notice of Availability – Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
