The Total Rewards Leader is responsible for shaping our Total Rewards strategy and ensuring it aligns with our goals and objectives. You will lead key initiatives such as the annual compensation cycle, harmonizing grades and levels and evaluating career tracks in partnership with Talent Management to ensure consistency and fairness. You will oversee various teams driving our wellbeing program, immigration and mobility, and leave of absences. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing effective communication strategies to drive associate awareness and understanding of total rewards.

This position is part of Compensation and Benefits and will be located Remotely or can be a hybrid position in the Bay area.


In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead key strategic initiatives: You will be responsible for managing critical initiatives such as the annual compensation cycle, harmonizing grades and levels, and evaluating career tracks in partnership with talent management. These initiatives will help ensure consistency and fairness in compensation and drive associate engagement.

  • Oversee wellbeing and related initiatives: You will oversee the wellbeing program, including mental and physical health, and other initiatives aimed at promoting associate health and wellbeing. Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing immigration and mobility, and leave of absence programs to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Develop effective communication strategies: You will develop and implement communication strategies to drive associate awareness and understanding of total rewards. These strategies will help associates understand how they can benefit from Cepheid’s total rewards programs and how they can maximize their rewards.

  • Provide interpretation and guidance: You will provide interpretation of company philosophy, policy, and principles related to the areas of compensation to associates, leaders, and other stakeholders. This guidance will help ensure that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of Cepheid’s compensation philosophy and policies.

  • Monitor external trends: You will monitor external trends and recommend changes as appropriate to ensure Cepheid remains competitive in attracting and retaining top talent. This will help ensure that the company's total rewards programs remain relevant and competitive in the marketplace.

  • Evaluate and automate the annual compensation cycle: You will evaluate and better automate Cepheid's annual compensation cycle in partnership with our newly created process improvement team. This will help streamline the compensation process and increase efficiency.

  • Collaborate with other teams: You will work collaboratively with Talent Acquisition, Shared Services, and HRBP's on compensation packages to hire and retain top talent. This collaboration will ensure that the company's total rewards programs are competitive and attractive to top talent.


The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 14+ years of experience in compensation and benefits, or Masters / Doctoral degree with 12+ years of experience with ideally 4+ years of experience in a leadership role

  • Strong understanding of innovative compensation design principles and practices, including experience with equity-based compensation

  • Knowledge of associate benefits programs, including health, and retirement plans

  • Knowledge of wellbeing programs, including mental and physical health initiatives, leave of absence programs, including FMLA, disability, and workers' compensation

  • Knowledge of immigration and mobility programs

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills

This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement in which you can work remotely from your home. The salary range for this role is $125,000-$215,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.


This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.


We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible associates.

The amount and availability of any bonus, commission, benefits, or any other form of compensation and benefits that are allocable to a particular associate remains in the Company's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified at the Company’s sole discretion, consistent with the law.
