About the Position:
Under general supervision of the Branch Chief of Data, Reporting and Performance in the Office of State Programs (OSP), a Supervising Transportation Planner, the Transportation Planner is responsible for assisting Senior Transportation Planner/ Engineer(s) with coordination and implementation of the Active Transportation Program (ATP) and the Active Transportation Resource Center (ATRC). The incumbent will coordinate ATP reporting for completed projects. The incumbent should possess graphic design, data analysis and report writing skills. The incumbent engages collaboratively and proactively with local agencies, tribal governments, California Transportation Commission, California State Transportation Agency, Federal Highway Administration, Metropolitan Planning Organization, Regional Transportation Planning Agency, non-profit partners and community-based organizations, Caltrans Divisions and Districts to provide oversight and stewardship for local transportation project delivery. Ability to coordinate and consult on a wide variety of transportation and related issues to achieve consensus or acceptance towards a course of action. Prepare effective presentations and present information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to effectively work within the highest levels of internal department contacts on policy and strategic matters as assignments require.
The incumbent must have knowledge and experience with community engagement practices, project management, and consultant management. Ability to work across multi-disciplinary functions and interests in a highly effective manner to achieve consensus on courses of action for strategic and sensitive issues, build strong partnerships to carryout new programs or recommendations, and ensure understanding of goals and objectives across functions to achieve strategic intent. The incumbent will assist with the coordination and direction of the ATRC, which includes bicycle and pedestrian training, active transportation resource and tool development, contract management, outreach and communication, and data tracking and reporting and other related work as needed. The incumbent acts as a planning expert and is expected to perform difficult and complex work which is critical to the Department’s mission and of statewide significance.
