TES employment includes medical coverage, paid vacation & sick time, paid holidays, as well as training and development opportunities!ASSIGNMENT DETAILSUC San Diego is hiring a Groundskeeper to support the campus operations for the 2024 - 2025 School Year.Duration: This role is anticipated to last approximately 6 monthsCompensation: $19.47/hour. Eligible for Mid-Level Benefits including medical plans, paid holidays, and vacation/sick leave.Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00am -2:30pmLocation: 100% on-site on campus in La Jolla.DescriptionUnder general supervision, perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled landscape maintenance duties in the care of the University’s landscaped areas; provide safe and appropriate environment, facilities and outdoor classrooms for the use and enjoyment of students, faculty, staff and visitors; perform maintenance and repair functions in the care of landscaped areas and related facilities. Job functions include but not limited to: maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, operating a variety of landscape maintenance power equipment and machinery, selective pruning of shrubs and small trees in accordance with University guidelines, fertilizing, planting, turf maintenance and litter pickup.Qualifications• Demonstrated experience in landscape maintenance work including knowledge of methods, tools, materials and related equipment. At least one year recent relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience as a Landscape Technician or Groundskeeper at a University, College, Hospital, Municipality, and/or other large commercial facility.• Demonstrated experience maintaining Southern California plant material; solid understanding of their cultural requirements, pests and diseases; ability to identify undesirable plant material.• Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing irrigation systems utilizing recognized standards, guidelines, applications and practices.• Demonstrated experience creating irrigation schedules and programming irrigation controllers based on horticultural and water conservation principles.• Experience safely operating commonly used landscape maintenance equipment and tools such as but not limited to: mower, edger, blower, hedge trimmer, line trimmer, chain saw, rake, shovel, hoe, broom, and other related landscape maintenance equipment and tools. Experience in the operation of trenchers; aerators; tractors; roto-tillers and other commonly used power driven landscape maintenance equipment.• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact in a positive manner within a multi-cultural environment.• Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and ability to follow through and carry out assignments.• Ability to understand and carry-out verbal and written instructions; problem solving skills and sound judgment.• Ability to perform heavy and physically demanding work for lengthy and continuous periods of time.• Basic computer skills to check email, enter time and material data and to complete electronic records.SPECIAL CONDITIONS• Background check required.• Must have reliable transportation for commuting to work.• Applicants must be available for Monday-Friday 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM shift.• Must provide excellent customer service and interact in a positive manner with a multicultural environment.• Strictly follow UC San Diego COVID requirements and policies.This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.Pay Transparency ActAnnual Full Pay Range: $40,653 - $53,599 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)Hourly Equivalent: $19.47 - $25.67Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
