Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $65,000 - $72,000 annually.
Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $61,700 - $108,100 annually. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Brief Summary of Job Duties
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Operations, responsible for the daily overall management of all recreational facilities on campus. Directly responsible for the recruitment, evaluation, and supervision of Recreation Operations; student staff, supervision and training of the highest student leadership position, Recreation Supervisors. Makes frequent, autonomous procedure and policy judgment calls based on proficiency in risk management, customer service, and resource management. Collaborates with other Recreation program areas such as Aquatics, Intramural Sports, Fitness, Sport Clubs, Adventure Programs, Marketing, and the Customer Service Center to facilitate the smooth operation of all recreational programs. Coordinates with other departments on campus and community groups on activities held within recreational facilities.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
45% Operations: Provide operational logistics for any activity utilizing the Recreation Center and remote facilities managed by the Recreation Department. Ensures a customer service oriented environment for program participants and facility users. Enforces program and facility policies and procedures. Uses initiative to independently make autonomous, informed decisions to interpret University and Department of Recreation policies and procedures in solving operational issues within the recreation facilities. Designs, plans, organizes and administers rental programming for sports equipment and locker facilities. Duties include specific programming for Recreation department programming, Exercise & Sports Studies classes, ES & Recreation staff, long-term client rental, and day-use. Oversees the inventory, storage, maintenance, and issue of the equipment through supervised student employees. Supervises the purchase, inventory, and sale of point of retail items in all recreation facilities. Manages the budget for the equipment rental and retail items. Reports repair or safety issues to appropriate Assistant Directors of Recreation or appropriate UCSB campus officials. Advises and provides logistics for large event programming with UCSB campus officials and Recreation program managers. Assists visiting groups or individuals with scheduled recreational activities.
40% Personnel Management: Responsible for the direct supervision of ~250 student staff. Hires, trains, and evaluates those staff. Creates weekly work schedules through employee scheduling software ensuring proper staffing of all facilities. Ensures staff are properly trained for their assignments and in adequate numbers to efficiently meet the required level and quality of service. Approves the bi-weekly payroll of student employees. Ensures all staff are appropriately trained and have up to date safety certifications. Maintains current and comprehensive manuals in relations to policies and procedures. Provides oversight and assistance for student employee outreach and onboarding through all applicable software programs and print copy forms. Works with various colleagues within the department to ensure daily operations in each program are supported by Operations staff. This includes coordinating Operations with Fitness Centers, job application review, and hiring committees. Create and oversee student employee training sessions for customer service (one-on-one or group discussion).
5% Marketing: Works with the Recreation Department marketing team to ensure all facilities, programs, and services are effectively marketed to the UCSB community. Specifically, ensures that the operations team is adequately knowledgeable to communicate relevant information to the users of the recreation facilities and that effective signage/marketing material is presented at all operations points of service.
10% Miscellaneous: Serve as departmental representative on various committees on campus. Participates in staff meetings, activities and events. Maintain files and records and prepare reports. Assists with the management of youth camps as required. Keeps current on industry trends and skills through continuing education. May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
