What You Will Do
Join the Detonation Science and Technology group as an Undergraduate Student Intern!
The Detonation Science and Technology (Q-6) Group is the design authority for primary detonators on current Los Alamos nuclear weapon stockpile systems. It provides engineering and design support to the production plants during production of War Reserve detonators and assesses and reports on surveillance data for each stockpile detonator. In addition, Q-6 is responsible for all firing system at all LANL firing sites. Q-6 is currently developing the next generation of firing systems based on a modular design and field-programmable gate arrays.
For this position, you will help developing the user interface of this new system and contribute to the testing of several of its components. The user interface is programmed in LabVIEW. The software architecture will be provided. Testing will be under the directives of Q-6 personnel.
Opportunities will be provided to learn about existing system and other Q-6 operations.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

Provide documentation of acceptance into an undergraduate program.

Must be enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours (or full-time equivalent).

Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of LabVIEW programming.

Demonstrated ability to work within a team.

Demonstrated ability to communicate well (verbal and written) in a professional setting.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
