About Us

At Union, we are solving one of the hardest challenges in AI infrastructure today: enabling high-velocity iteration while maintaining seamless production-readiness for AI workloads at scale. Flyte, the open-source project we steward, is the emerging standard for modern data and AI orchestration, with numerous leading technology organizations - like LinkedIn, Spotify, and Gojek - running millions of mission-critical workloads on the platform. We have a deep bench of infrastructure veterans from companies in the Big Three and beyond and a technical founding team who originally created Flyte while at Lyft.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for leading our collective engineering efforts across Union.ai. We are looking for a technical leader with a track record of recruiting and leading high-performing teams of senior, mid-level, and junior engineers across multiple disciplines: backend, client, front-end, and infrastructure, who build software products that delight technical end users. 

As part of our small leadership team, our ideal candidate will have prior startup experience and enjoys working directly with technical founders. Our company is distributed but our leadership team is currently based out of Bellevue, WA and typically comes to the office 3 to 4 days a week.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a senior [Ex-FAANG] engineering team in writing, reviewing, maintaining, and documenting code using modern frameworks

  • Directly manage lead engineers in control plane, execution plane, front-end, client, and operational infrastructure

  • Deliver outcomes. You will work with the team to provide roadmap guidance on product and feature launches, help make strategic decisions, and define OKRs/KPIs and prioritization

  • Establish technical excellence by creating standards to ensure consistent levels of quality, performance, reliability and scalability

  • Collaborate with Product, Design and other cross functional departments to enable your team to deliver quality products to our customers on time 

  • Inspire your team by leading with empathy and fostering their career development 

  • Partner with leadership and recruiting to attract, recruit, mentor and retain a diverse team of engineers

  • Engage with our open source community, listening for community feedback, and representing the company as a leader in our space

About you: 

  • You enjoy working directly with technical co-founders

  • Challenging ideas, building consensus, and aligning teams to move forward together is one of your super powers

  • You lead through influence, reason, and persuasion rather than title and or level 

  • You have a track record of mentoring tech leads and engineering managers 

  • 4+ years of experience leading high performing teams as a hands on, technical manager

  • 3+ years of experience as a technical lead and or Software Engineer 

  • You have prior experience building platforms for technical end users (Software Engineer, ML Engineers, Data Scientists)
