Summary

The Energy Star Inspector will ensure that residential and commercial buildings meet the strict energy efficiency and performance standards outlined by the Energy Star program. This position is integral to promoting sustainability and energy conservation in modern construction.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

•Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Occasional body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing. Standing or sitting for extended periods of time may be required.  

•Capability to navigate ladders and access attic spaces.

• Proficiency in lifting objects weighing up to fifty pounds. 

• Exposure to outdoor environments, non-conditioned structures, and standard office settings

• Potential need for overtime and weekend work to meet tight schedules.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct on-site inspections of residential and commercial properties to verify compliance with Energy Star program standards.
  • Perform assessments of HVAC systems, insulation, windows, appliances, and lighting to confirm energy efficiency.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as blower door and duct leakage testing equipment to evaluate energy performance.
  • Collaborate with builders, contractors, and project managers to address deficiencies and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare and submit detailed inspection reports, including compliance verification and performance improvement suggestions.
  • Stay informed about updates to Energy Star requirements and energy efficiency best practices.
  • Work closely with HERS Raters and other energy efficiency professionals to facilitate certifications.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria). 
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).
  • Certification as a HERS Rater or Energy Star verifier is highly required.
  • Experience in energy efficiency, building science, or construction inspections.
  • Familiarity with Energy Star guidelines and energy performance testing tools.
  • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.
  • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Data Collection to input data and prepare reports.
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in construction, or a related field is highly preferred.
