The Labor and Employee Representative 4 provides labor and employee relations guidance to all levels within the organization, utilizing specialized labor and employee relations expertise within area of responsibility to resolve highly complex issues in creative and effective ways. Internal and external contacts often pertain to significant labor and employee relations programs and objectives. Normally receives little direction on assignments. Serves in a lead capacity, providing guidance to other professionals throughout the organization. The individual has independent responsibility for providing advice and consultation to managers on labor and employee relations matters and assessing risk related to those issues. The individual also leads local negotiations and represents UCSF's interests at system-wide level negotiations; conducts training; investigates and responds to grievances; promotes proactive management practices; and administers and intererprets collective bargaining agreements and University policies. To see the salary range for this position (we recommend that you make a note of the job code and use that to look up): Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role. For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range. To learn more about the benefits of working at UCSF, including total compensation, please visit: Department Description The Labor and Employee Relations Unit has responsibility for providing advice and consultation to managers, supervisors and employees in the area of labor and employee relations, including matters related to: performance management; corrective action and or discipline; contract and policy interpretation and compliance; compliance with local, state and federal employment and labor laws; principles of sound personnel management; negotiating local binding agreements and participating in systemwide negotiations; and the grievance and complaint resolution procedures. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area and six year of experience in labor and employee relations or related field and/or and equivalent experience/training. Has advanced knowledge of labor/employment law and the principles and techniques of labor negotiations. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the principles of advocacy in order to represent the organization in complex and sensitive dispute forums. Has advanced knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and court decisions regarding employment related matters. Possesses specialized knowledge within labor relations field. Demonstrates skills necessary to bargain and represent the organization's interests effectively. Demonstrates ability to lead and mentor other labor relations professionals. Possesses advanced analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrates advanced knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work impacts other areas in Human Resources and the organization.
