Job DescriptionRole SummaryThe University of Missouri Controller’s office is seeking a qualified Financial Reporting Accountant to join the Accounting and Financial Reporting Team. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Accounting and works with the University’s external auditor and accounting staff at each campus and hospital. This position will also have opportunities to collaborate with upper levels of management.A successful candidate for this position in the Controller’s Office will:Be self-motivated and proactively solve problems with little oversightBe detail oriented with the ability to summarize at a high levelDisplay high levels of critical thinkingExhibit effective communication skillsUnderstand the relationships between financial statementsHave external auditing experience, preferably at a large or regional firmHave experience with financial statement preparationHave experience with governmental accountingKey Responsibilities:Review financial reports and transactions to ensure accuracy of financial data and adherence to accounting standards.Support the development and improvement of finance related policies and procedures.Assist in year-end close of the University consolidated financial statements and preparation of the annual financial report.Help implement new Governmental Accounting StandardsComplete complex accounting analysis upon requestReview or perform account reconciliations as neededPerform finance compliance reporting evaluationsAs with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University of Missouri System.ShiftMonday - Friday; 8-5pmMinimum QualificationsA Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessaryPreferred QualificationsExperience working for or with external audit firms.A bachelor's degree in accountingMaster’s DegreeCertified Public AccountantStrong analytical and organizational skillsProficient with Microsoft productsExperience with Tableau or Power BI and PeoplesoftExperience interpreting Government Accounting StandardsAnticipated Hiring RangeSalary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 per yearGrade: GGS-010University Title: Finance and Accounting ConsultantInternal applicants can determine their University title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.Community InformationColumbia offers small-town friendliness with big city features and a high quality of life for people of all ages and interests.
