Engineering & Operations Intern

Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.

Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

As an Engineering & Operations Intern, you will contribute to the optimization of our engineering, manufacturing, and enterprise resource planning systems. You will support key process improvement efforts across product configuration, documentation, data governance, and system integration. Working closely with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams, you will help streamline workflows and improve data accuracy to support rapid and reliable hardware development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the cleanup and standardization of engineering part data in product lifecycle and ERP systems.
  • Assist in the review, creation, and release of manufacturing documentation, including work instructions and technical drawings.
  • Contribute to improving data integrity across product structures, routings, and supplier information.
  • Participate in archiving and organizing inactive products, BOMs, and system artifacts to ensure up-to-date configurations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify gaps and inconsistencies in system processes and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Engage with technicians, engineers, and program leads to gather input and ensure documentation reflects current practices.
  • Learn and apply best practices in configuration management, document control, and process mapping.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • Strong attention to detail, with an interest in systems, processes, and documentation.
  • Basic familiarity with engineering documentation and part structures (drawings, BOMs, routings).
  • Experience or coursework in PLM/ERP systems (e.g., Windchill, Odoo) is a plus.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently while collaborating within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with manufacturing systems, configuration tools, or enterprise software platforms.
  • Familiarity with process improvement techniques or basic data analytics.
  • Exposure to aerospace or high-tech manufacturing environments through coursework or previous internships.
  • Compensation and Benefits:
  • Competitive internship compensation.
  • Hands-on experience contributing to real hardware programs.
  • Access to company events, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
  • Potential for return internship or full-time employment based on performance.
