Job Summary of Warehouse Shift Manager:The Warehouse Shift Manager is responsible for managing the night shift of a warehouse operation. The Warehouse Shift Manager oversees staff members, ensures safety measures are upheld, stimulates the efficient handling, storage and delivery of goods, and guarantees the timely fulfillment of orders. The manager is also responsible for reviewing the system, identifying any issues that hinder profitability, and developing strategies for resolving them.Responsibilities of Warehouse Shift Manager:• Instill a safety mindset that focuses on the well-being of all US Foods associates and prioritizes safety protocols, policies, and training. Foster a culture of safety excellence to promote a secure workplace for everyone.• Manage and foster the professional development of warehouse staff through personalized coaching, disseminating knowledge of policies and procedures, mediating difficult scenarios, and displaying exceptional leadership during work hours. Evaluate worker achievements with Senior Warehouse Management and craft a proposal to improve any shortcomings.• Another important factor to consider is the skill level and availability of each team member. By assigning tasks based on these factors, you can ensure that everyone is working to their fullest potential and that no one is overburdened or underutilized.• Drive the performance of warehouse associates, overseeing their activities and optimizing their productivity levels. Cultivate a supportive and collaborative work environment that exalts US Foods' values.• Promote high-performing teams by conducting interviews and hiring warehouse personnel, working closely with senior managers. Evaluate productivity and safety standards, provide advice and feedback, and execute disciplinary procedures as warranted.• Oversee and guide team members to achieve meticulous orders, which are then arranged and loaded onto the vehicles. Also, ensure that the warehouse is spick and span for the next shift's outbound or inbound activities.• Observe operational data, including mis-picks and productivity reports, to ensure that the entire shift meets objectives and follows preferred practices. If needed, provide coaching and counseling to rectify any inappropriate behavior.• The day shift assistant has a crucial role in assigning dock locations for inbound carriers and ensuring the products are stocked accurately following food safety and FIFO procedures. Along with that, monitoring replenishment activity is an essential part of minimizing the potential for shortages and having adequate stocks for the shipping shift. Furthermore, it is necessary to supervise the will call process to ensure smooth operations.• Inspecting the warehouse and its equipment for potential hazards and taking necessary steps to ensure their safe and optimal function.• Collaborate with the operations management group in identifying the reasons for inventory loss and provide assistance in developing an appropriate course of action. Assess the current operations and suggest measures to enhance cost and expenditure management.• Continuously review the facility for safety concerns and collaborate with the safety team to develop mitigation plans as needed.• The Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and FSQA standards must be adhered to in order to safeguard the product from contamination and to maintain product integrity.• Use Microsoft Excel and other planning tools to allocate working schedules accurately and effectively• Ancillary assignments designated by employerQualification of Warehouse Shift Manager:• Related Experience/Requirements:• Minimum of three years of experience in warehouse distribution required.• Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce required.• Broad knowledge of warehouse operations, methods and procedures.• Strong leadership, communication and people development skills.• Familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, HACCP and other regulatory requirements.• Ability to interpret financial and operational data.• Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office).• 10% travel required, typically for mandatory meetings and/or training.• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferredPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS of Warehouse Shift Manager:• Licenses/Certifications:• HACCP certification a plus.• PCQI certification a plus.
