SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Must be familiar with Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains, have a thorough knowledge of timetables and connections, must compile up-to-date book on schedules and train information pertaining to the job.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Check tickets of passengers in the Seating Area and interface with the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Qualified to operate the Solari System with the Console and Arrow. Must assist disabled, elderly passengers.
  • Make announcements over the PA in a clear, comprehensive manner.
  • Cover duties of Desk Clerk, Information Clerk, Seating Area Clerk, Usher and Train Announcer. Manifests will be disseminated to Conductors and On-Board Service personnel where applicable.
  • Assist supervisors and Desk Clerk between train assignments and checking tickets

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified to operate the Solari System with the Console and Arrow
  • Minimal years in a service-oriented position.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment when covering Desk Clerk, Seating Area and Information Clerk
  • Some years in a service-oriented position.
  • Must conform to Amtrak’s Standards of Excellence and prescribed code of dress.


COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.


The hourly range is $23.27 – $31.03 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment). If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.


In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. §1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.


Note that any education requirement listed above may be deemed satisfied if you have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
