About the Team:

The work environment is fast paced, fun, and collaborative. We value and recognize excellent work, encourage innovative and creative thinking, yet also emphasize the importance of work/life balance. Our team is comprised of professionals from diverse backgrounds with a range of degrees and past work experience. This role requires being in the Asheville, NC office 2-3 days per week.

About the Job:

· Audit building permit data: Verify that data meets specific quality requirements. Utilize knowledge of MySQL and databases to identify errors in the source data or in processing.

· Normalize building permit data: Receive data in a variety of different formats and use internal applications to clean and normalize data. Use regular expressions to manipulate poorly formatted data. Ensure that data is consistent across the board.

· Communicate with team members: When data does not meet requirements, make clear recommendations on what needs to be fixed. Communicate efficiently to relay findings to co-workers.

· A mindset of continuous improvement: Identify steps in the process that could be improved. Share ideas with team members and management in an on-going effort to optimize our team’s performance.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have both the attitude and the experience to successfully fill this role, including:

· Detail oriented: The successful Data Analyst audits large quantities of data and identifies potential issues.

· Technically skilled: This person has a working knowledge of relational databases. They are comfortable in MySQL and able to pick up new concepts quickly. *Preferred but not required.

· Collaborator: The Data Analyst works well in a team environment. They lean on fellow employees and internal resources to assist them with their duties.

· Accountable: This person takes responsibility for each task that they work on. They are invested in the data and claim responsibility for the outcome.

· Adept Communicator: Comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical team members and keeps clear and concise notes.

· Committed to quality with a strong desire to meet and exceed expectations through attention to detail, technical knowledge, and willingness to trouble shoot and support the other team members.

· Comfortable in a hard-working, fast paced, team environment with the ability to have fun and get the job done.

 

Experience and Skills:

The candidate should possess a well-rounded background, which may have been acquired through prior job experience, coursework, or personal projects, with as many of the specific qualifications as possible:

· Experience working with several different types of file formats.

· Experience working as part of a strong team.

· Experience with relational databases preferred but not required.

· Experience using regular expressions to manipulate data a plus.

· Great problem-solving skills.

· Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

· Full-Time Employment: Ability to work as a full-time employee
