The role
The Vice President and Head of Platform within the Large Scale Manufacturing Business Unit is responsible for developing, ensuring and maintaining the Large Scale Manufacturing Platform across all parts of the global Large Scale production capacity network in close collaboration with ongoing capacity expansion projects and site leadership. The role is also responsible for assessment of “facility fit” for potential and new partner programs.
The Platform covers Upstream and Downstream Automation and Process Engineering as well as Validation, Engineering Science and Platform Projects (e.g., digitalization and optimized tech transfer processing) across current sites in US and DK and future sites
As a concept, the Platform encompass all the critical elements that enable current and future large scale facilities at all FDB sites to operate as one network. This way FDB provides an identical experience, product and quality to all large scale customers along with agility and flexibility within the global FDB large scale network. The Platform is based on well-known solutions and standards where the Platform team ensures alignment as well as consistency across all large scale facilities, at all FDB sites, to ensure large scale facilities are identical or similar on equipment, automation processes and procedures when required.
The Head of Platform manages the Platform organization through the Platform leadership team and is responsible for the 2030 Large Scale Platform vision – we call it KojoX. KojoX is how we realize our ambition to be a leading global CDMO with a Partners for Life focus. It embraces a platform-based ONE global CDMO partner business model that orchestrates, optimize and realize client needs across all steps in the drug lifecycle – and covering the full product supply chain – with speed, full flexibility and scalability in a cost-effective way with high quality and reliability.
Major activities, accountabilities & responsibilities
  • Set the strategic platform direction for the global Large Scale Manufacturing Platform
  • Lead the 200 people, who are part of the Large Scale Business Unit Platform organization, through the 7 direct reports in the Platform Leadership Team
  • Manage the growth of the global Platform organization to 300 people
  • Manage the Large Scale Platform and ensure communication of the Platform philosophy, strategy and ambition, but more importantly coordinate, ascertain and control fulfilment of Platform minimum requirements and specifications on all critical Platform-related activities across production sites and ongoing capacity expansion projects with implementation of stringent platform version control
  • Drive and ensure that we succeed with the global KojoX network strategy across all FDB business units and production sites as a foundation for the next 5-10 years
  • Initiate and lead all platform-related technology development projects and vendor discussions to enable our vision of leading innovation in MAbs outsourced manufacturing, incl. Digitalisation, “One-Click” Tech Transfers, Automation and Process Technology and Validation
  • Travelling should be expected.
The Vice President and Head of Platform will report to the Chief Operational Officer for Large Scale Business Unit (member of FDB Executive Committee). The position can be based at the Manufacturing sites in Hillerød, Denmark or Holly Springs, North Carolina, USA.
Professional and personal qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following background and skill set:
  • High School Diploma, GED, Bachelor or Master’s degree with 15 years of relevant and related job experience
  • Strategic thinking and agility in a high technology driven and highly specialized biological manufacturing industry
  • Ability to balance longer term strategic vision and direction setting with day-day management responsibilities through the Platform Leadership Team
  • Strong inter-personal and stakeholder managements skills with ability to navigate, influence, create followship and negotiate in complex and constantly changing high-paced environment, with a proven track record of successfully managing and ensuring cross-functional collaboration and deliver in accordance with plans and expectations.
  • Drug production process experience (ie. drug substance, drug product or finished goods), preferably within biopharmaceutical manufacturing, incl. quality, automation, engineering, validation or operations, or experience from operation of a manufacturing site would be an advantage
  • Enhancement of existing manufacturing site or even design, built and operationalization of a new manufacturing site would be an advantage

  • Possess a positive roll-up-the-sleeves attitude and optimistic outlook
  • Strong ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with fluctuating priorities, and collaborate effectively with others
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to set own priorities in a timely manner
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability
  • Must be able to work as needed to meet tight deadlines and at peak periods
  • Self-motivated and organized critical thinker with solid interpersonal and business communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross functional team
  • Adheres to company and facility specific policies and procedures, including SOP, training and meeting requirements
  • Responsible for reporting all safety hazards and potential unsafe working conditions
  • Ensures FDBN, FDBD or other required trainings/certifications are up to date
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner
