Vice President, Talent Acquisition

Job purpose

The Vice President, Talent Acquisition will provide strategic and operational leadership of all talent acquisition activities in the United States and Canada. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the incumbent will be a key member of the Senior Human Resources team. Working closely with human resources and business line leaders, the incumbent will ensure all talent acquisition strategies support business operations throughout North America.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Listen to business leaders to understand current and future staffing needs. With an understanding of business metrics, workforce analytics and competitive sourcing methods, design and implement best of class and creative sourcing/selection strategies. Create a pipeline of high caliber, diverse talent needed to meet business objectives in a highly dispersed environment.
  • Build, lead and develop the North America talent acquisition team that is responsive to the needs of local business operations and ensures all recruiting targets are met with high quality talent and in a timely manner.
  • Understand best in class practices, competition for talent, geographic nuances to attract talent, key differentiators needed to attract talent and creative recruiting practices including the use of social media.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to understand the changing and dynamic work environment as well as the evolving competencies required to be successful in roles.
  • Develop and apply internal / external staffing assessment and selection tools and processes to match the right people to the right jobs. These may include incorporating processes from overall talent management systems or developing unique models for Beacon. Develop tools and processes for recruiting employees at all levels within the organization; identify source pools, acquisition methods, selection methodologies and measurement systems.
  • Understand the power of a diverse workforce. Develop talent acquisition strategies which ensure a diverse talent pool for open positions at all levels in the organization.
  • Develop and apply scorecard metrics and key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of the recruiting efforts and turnover in the organization. Provide the organization with time sensitive performance metrics and seek feedback regarding the effectiveness of the talent acquisition team.
  • Review / assess the applicant tracking system to ensure it meets the needs of the organization. Recommend and implement changes that make the system a more effective recruiting tool and more user friendly.
  • Develop effective working relationships with client managers at all levels of the organization with specific focus on providing counsel and guidance to senior leaders of the corporation.
  • Work closely with the HR Centers of Excellence as well as Regional HR leaders. Ensure all talent acquisition efforts complement and support the broad-based HR strategic plan. Understand the connectivity of talent acquisition with total rewards, learning / development and performance management initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Qualified candidate requires 10 - 15 years of progressively more responsible human resources experience preferably in a best-in-class company. Candidates must have deep talent acquisition experience as well as an understanding of broad-based human resources practices in a distributed work environment. Candidates must understand and have demonstrated the ability to translate business needs into effective strategies and actions.
  • Exceptional leadership skills to lead change and push against organization obstacles. Must demonstrate skills in prioritizing the strategic projects with the tactical, and leading the HR team and the line leadership team through the choices to achieve all.
  • Possess an appetite and ability to understand business strategies, operations, financials and how the company relates to the competitive marketplace.
  • Strong problem solving and coaching skills that are broad based and reflect a high degree of creativity in solving/resolving issues or change initiatives.
  • Process facilitation and organization skills are required to drive management practices and processes. Needs to be good at framing issues, clarifying common goals/choices, and collaborating across Beacon. Must have the skills to truly influence and coach. Does not wait for people to bring issues to the table and is able to provide an objective and balanced perspective in all situations.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of all federal and state regulations impacting workforce decisions.
  • Field experience working across a highly geographically distributed employee population is important.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills which command the respect of the peer group, the broad employee groups, and executives throughout the organization. Must be able to market ideas to a diverse leadership team.
  • A strong project management and process improvement background is important.
  • Resourcefully innovate and adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Build trust and credibility among his/her team and at all levels within the organization.
  • Comfortable with working through gray/ambiguous areas.
  • Extraordinary integrity.
  • Bachelors’ degree is required. MBA or MS in human resources is highly desirable.
