At Viva Energy, we are the exclusive Shell licensee in Australia, and supply around a quarter of Australia’s fuel through our network of around 1345 service stations and through our commercial partnerships with some of Australia’s biggest companies.

We currently have an opportunity for a Commercial Manager - Logistics to join our Supply Chain team for a 15-month Fixed Term contract (Jan 2025 – April 2026).  This role is a significant contributor to the success of the Viva Energy supply chain, with responsibility for several hundred million dollars of annual spend across multiple significant road transport contracts helping to deliver billions of litres of the Viva group’s annual sales.

Leading a team of 7, you will be hands on negotiating and achieving commercial outcomes, while also having the opportunity to set and deliver the longer-term road transport strategy for Viva Energy.  You will have an opportunity to gain great experience in managing financial processes, negotiate with genuine business outcomes on the line and lead and continue to develop a highly motivated and experienced team. 

Your role and team supports every one of Viva’s liquid fuels business units, including Aviation, Transport, Marine and Defence among others.  You will interface with every one of these business units in this role, and you will gain valuable experience in how each of these businesses operates at a detailed level, building relationships with key stakeholders across the business.

The Commercial Manager Logistics will:

• Manage key carrier relationships, ensuring all commercial strategies and targets are achieved through effective contract management and negotiation.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
• Assess tender submissions, negotiate contracts, and award tenders.
• Deliver financial activity including annual budgeting, monthly financial processes, and reporting.
• Lead, mentor and coach your team.
• Play a key role on Viva Energy’s Logistics Leadership Team to further build and develop the team culture.
• Manage a significant number of different stakeholders effectively to ensure that commercial outcomes are achieved, through effective and influential working relationships – both internally and externally.

Qualifications / Experience

• You hold a commercial background or have experience in managing counterparty relationships and contracts.
• Experience with contract management principles.
• Ability to consider business strategy and objectives when analysing problems and offer creative solutions/options.
• Are an effective negotiator with a sharp commercial mindset.
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to manage and influence people.
• Skilled in developing and leading high performing teams.
• Ability to work as part of a virtual team as well as autonomously.
• Possess clear verbal and written communication.
• Attention to detail, well organised and comfortable with managing data.
• Experience in Bulk Fuel Logistics (transport) or similar is desirable.
