First and most importantly: our mission is to bring transparency and clarity to the world's data.
Our platform, FiftyOne, is where AI work happens. Our enterprise platform is the mission critical linchpin for managing unstructured data, model development, and AI systems at the world's largest companies.
We believe that open source is the way to lead the data-centric AI revolution. Our open source version has 2 million downloads to-date.
Our software massively impacts AI work across almost every vertical: from self-driving cars to medical imaging to revolutionizing agriculture, we are at the thrilling center of real-world AI advancement’s next wave.
And we’re built on three key tenets:
- We are all human beings: we strive to be a “human-first” organization and treat everyone with the respect, care, and flexibility that all people deserve.
- We are distributed: we believe in getting autonomy and power into the hands of people actually doing the work
- We believe in the power of community
Our fully distributed team is located across North America today.
About your role
As an Engineering Manager at Voxel51, you’ll lead a team of world-class engineers, building new capabilities for our thriving open-source community and top-tier Enterprise customers. This is a “hands-on” role: You'll be responsible for supporting your team in execution both technically and culturally as we continue to scale our company. You’ll have the opportunity to grow as both a software engineer and an engineering leader.
What you will do
- Lead and develop a team of software engineers, including: task planning, technical expertise, and career development of your reports.
- Drive team productivity improvements, refine agile processes, and create methods to increase efficiency.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment that elevates a diverse set of voices and experiences.
- Model clear and effective communication across the organization.
- Set clear goals, expectations, and performance metrics for the engineering team, holding individuals accountable for their deliverables.
- Own the overall planning, execution, and success of projects.
- Collaborate with Product, setting the roadmap and identifying priorities to ensure we’re delivering a valuable customer experience.
- Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Foster team growth by assisting in hiring, and capacity planning.
- Be an active member of the engineering leadership team: report directly to the VP of Engineering, and collaborate on improvements to engineering management and process across the department.
- When needed, contribute to our codebase (Python and Typescript): writing and reviewing code, pair programming, and filling gaps.
What you will bring
- You thrive in a startup environment where things are growing and changing, and not every process and resource is in place. In fact, you’re excited to be a part of building them.
- You love building high-performing teams and creating a collaborative, inclusive, people and outcomes-focused engineering culture.
- You practice servant leadership. You and your report are a team, with the twin goals of making them a success, and the business a success.
- You care deeply about the craft of management and leadership. You know these skills can be learned, practiced, and developed, and you’ve been doing the work.
- You care deeply about the craft of software development. You love to build code that’s easy to understand, maintain, and change. But, you prefer to find the balance between quality and velocity that’s best for business outcomes.
- You value your customers and peers and want to succeed as a team.
- You’re excited by working on a Visual AI platform that enables many of the world’s most impactful applications.
