VP, Social Strategy Director

MRM is seeking a talented VP, Strategy Director to join our Social team in our New York City office. This individual will lead Social Strategy on a portfolio of name-brand products as well as contribute to growing MRM’s integrated Social practice. This individual will report to an SVP, Strategy Director as well as work directly with the MRM NY Chief Strategy Officer as part of the Social practice.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

CLIENT WORK LEADER

  • Acts as a trusted Social expert clients can work with to diagnose the business/brand/social problem and identify courses of action and Social-first solutions
  • Drives the intellectual agenda, both on Social as well as on how Social fits into the end-to-end ecosystem (in ways more sophisticated than “matching luggage” communications!)
  • Lead Social understanding on:
o Audiences: Consumers. Creators and Co-Creators. Influencers, even celebrities. Partners and Collaborators. Able to analyze audiences for insights but also sizing to prioritize which Social audiences matter. Skilled in social listening, sentiment analysis and accompanying tools (e.g., Pulsar, Netbase, Quid)
o Channels/Platforms/Formats: Expert at TikTok and Instagram (mandatory) as well as emerging social (e.g., social in the metaverse). Develops rigorous rationale for platform/channel/format recommendations (i.e., channel planning working with Data, Media, etc. teams)
o Culture: Proactively keeps up on Social trends (e.g., what’s happening with Bluesky vs. Twitter) and their possible relevance to our creative ideas and client business
o Tech: Understand social martech and can work with our Tech team and client to determine the right “social stack” (e.g., Sprinklr, Hootsuite). Understands martech required to scale Social (e.g., Celtra)
  • Achieves mutual inspiration with Creative teams, looking to Creative for Strategic input and informing and inspiring Creative with social trends, insights, research and ideas
  • Develops Social playbooks, roadmaps, calendars and ecosystems (according to the client need) and can articulate not only the “what” of the recommendation but also the supporting “why”
  • Partner across disciplines with Creative, Media, Technology, Data, Business Leadership, others as well as other agencies in the McCann Worldgroup and IPG networks, including representing MRM in IAT environments
  • Present to the highest level of an organization and effectively persuade others, making the complex simple and the simple compelling
  • Lead Social strategy on new business pitches
  • Provide leadership and support to team members to ensure they deliver successfully and are nurtured in their growth
  • Be an outstanding communicator – clear, charismatic and compelling

PRACTICE CONTRIBUTOR

In addition to client-specific work above, you also:

  • Have broad expertise in the Social space and a POV on the future of Social
  • Understand Social as a medium, an output (social-first creative) and as an input (to understand audiences)
  • Cultivate relationships with Social providers (from tools to trends and beyond)
  • Get Social implementation, and can work with MRM offices around the globe to determine the right social operational models for each situation, including but not limited to Influencer Strategy and Management, Community Management, Social Reporting (working with Data teams)
  • Know how to consult with clients outside of your focus and MRM Technology teams to help determine a bespoke social stack
  • Has outstanding partnership and collaboration skills – within MRM across disciplines as well as with clients ranging from Social to Digital to Marketing and Brand, from social managers and brand managers to IATs and CMOs

THOUGHT & CAPABILITY LEADER

  • Help expand the overall profile of Strategy and Social at the agency and network and industry (e.g., awards)

TEAM MANAGER & MENTOR

  • Lead the development of Social methods that inspire and engage teams
  • Provide input into scoping and staffing for Social work
  • Manage the career development of team members
  • Help attract the best talent
  • Nurture a culture oriented towards positivity, problem-solving, and resourcefulness
  • Contribute to the sense of community on the Strategy team, the Social team, MRM and the network

THE REQUIREMENTS

  • 8-10 years directly-related Social experience
  • 4+ years supervisory and management experience
  • Understanding of how Social connects to Brand Strategy, Digital Strategy, Experience Strategy, CRM Strategy, Content Strategy
  • Experience building go-to-market plans across omnichannel ecosystem
  • Ability to inspire Creative teams
  • Comfort and confidence with technology, including up-to-date knowledge of Social mar-tech
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area
  • Strong collaboration skills and flexibility with different ways to work is required
  • Exceptional communication skills — on the page and in presentation
  • Curiosity, passion, collaborative spirit, optimism to find the answer, and work ethic to deliver

The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $300,000. Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position; the associated discipline; market considerations; budgetary considerations; tenure, and standing with the company (applicable to current employees); as well as the employee’s/applicant’s background, pertinent experience, and qualifications.
