Project Architect

Ware Malcomb has an exciting opportunity in our Toronto office for a Project Architect!

Project Architects are responsible for the management of entire projects, from start to finish including conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documentation and construction services. The project architect will be responsible for leading consultants, internal resources, overseeing the development of contract documents, adhering to budgets, facilitating contracts, construction site representation, and are a primary client contact throughout the life of a project.  

• Responsible for the project(s) drawing set(s) from start to finish.
• Working with the Project Manager, prepare a projection of the project’s schedule and deadlines.
• Utilize the company’s resource groups for design, production drawings, specification writing, quality control, and other resources as needed.
• Coordinates and reviews the project manual on all projects.
• Oversees clash management on complex project types.
• Provide construction services (Site visits, review shop drawings, etc.).
• Be the key contact for consultant coordination.
• Responsible for local, county, state and federal project code searches and analysis for each project.
• Represent WM at required jurisdiction public design review or development approval meetings in the absence of the Project Manager and make project presentations when required. 
• Assist the office lead or studio lead and PM in assembling the consultant team for the project (Identify scope of work, collect fees, select consultants, and facilitate contracts).
• Working with the Ware Malcomb consultants (Typical team: MEP, Structural, and Landscape) and the client’s consultants (Typical: Civil, Geotechnical, and Signage), coordinate all the various trades to achieve a complete, coordinated set of contract documents and specifications which will be used for building permits and construction.
• Be responsible for the financial success of the drawing production teams.
• Mentor less experienced staff on successful drawing production. (Detailing, Set layout, Project phasing, Drawing scale, Dimensioning, Code review, Redlining, Project manuals, Notation, Jurisdictional requirements, etc.).

• 7+ years of experience in the field of Architecture
• OAA Licensed Architect
• Tenant fit-up experience in office , multi-family and/or retail
• Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or related field
• Revit and Auto CAD skills required 
• Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and Newforma
• Thorough knowledge of building codes
• Ability to coordinate a complete set of contract documents
