Position Description:
Assist the Warehouse Foreman to fulfill daily food distribution requirements. Travel throughout the Arlington Diocese of Virginia, consisting of 21 counties and 7 independent cities to carry out the mission. Flexible schedule with evening and weekend hours is required as needed.

Position Responsibilities
:
Primary responsibilities under tasking of Warehouse Foreman are but not limited to:

Warehouse General
  • Maintain warehouse in full compliance with all applicable Federal Occupational Safety and Administration (OSHA), State and local agency regulatory safety, and health requirements under the direction of warehouse foreman.
  • Practice site risk management, troubleshooting and resolving safety, service and other operational problems in collaboration with CCDA administration.
  • Maintain and operate warehouse equipment safely as directed.
  • Identify potential hazards, mitigate the danger immediately, and report them to the Warehouse Foreman or Program Director by phone followed up in an email/writing.
  • Maintain the physical condition of the warehouse by sweeping and mopping with disinfectant and removal of trash and recycling material, planning physical layouts of stock, and arranging for any needed repairs. Do not mop immediately after pest control treatments to maximize their effectiveness.
  • Provide warehouse coverage as requested around warehouse foreman absences, adjust priorities to unplanned warehouse events to achieve daily and weekly and monthly goals.
  • Escort the pest control contractor to ensure any problems are known and resolved when requested.

Food Management
  • Learn and comply with Warehouse Foreman food inventory management system for perishable and non-perishable products.
    • Receive, store, pack and distribute food in bulk or individual food containers to meet mission objectives in compliance with Warehouse Foreman direction.
    • Monitor volunteer packing and quality control food boxes prior to placing into food inventory when requested.
  • Develop weekly schedules and pick up food from commercial sources as part of organized food bank partner programs and distribute to SLP pantry network as directed.
  • Ensure all incoming food and distributions have receipts for food pounds and donors/destinations. Provide to data base entry collection point.
  • Maintain stock control and management, including rotation.
  • Must receive or make deliveries whenever possible.
  • Coordinate food transfers among CCDA SLP sites or arrange distribution to SLP pantry network.
  • Must be food safety certified or be willing to take training at company’s expense

Vehicles
  • Ensure safe vehicle operation.
    • Schedule and drive vehicles to routine and required maintenance locations or direct authorized volunteers to do so for remote locations.
    • Perform walk around safety and vehicle body inspection prior to vehicle use. Check for fluids topped off, windshield wipers functional, belts checked, tire pressure, and cleanliness prior to vehicle use.
    • Identify corrosion control repair requirements on vehicles to extend service life. Identify and schedule higher level of maintenance when needed such as brakes, belts for Foreman and Program Director authorization.
    • Assist with refrigerated vehicles to be maintained on schedule during the non-Summer high-demand-season.
    • Ride with and observe other staff and volunteer drivers for safety purposes. Provide feedback to Foreman and Volunteer Coordinator for adjustments to volunteer tasks.
  • Safely operate all sizes of the SLP fleet of vehicles as required: refrigerated trucks, commercial vans, pickup truck, and other assorted vehicles.
  • Knowledgeable and willing to uphold Catholic moral and social teaching and treat all employees and volunteers with dignity and respect.

Qualifications & Skills
:
  • Must have a valid Virginia driver's license.
  • Ability to satisfy OSHA requirements in correctly and safely operating a warehouse and its equipment, such as forklift, motorized and manual pallet jacks, etc.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel; experience with PowerPoint and Adobe Pro is a plus.
  • Organization/time management/planning skills to include effective multi-tasking.

Education and Experience
:
  • At least one-year equivalent work experience in a warehouse.
  • Labor experience including loading and unloading trucks from loading docks and drive in bays, securing loads, and lifting heavy items.
  • Experience loading pallets onto a truck is a must.
  • Experience using pallet jacks and offloading cargo from vehicles with lift gates or with dock plate.
  • Certified motorized pallet jack operator. Certified sit-down forklift operator.
  • Supervised or directed warehousing functions for a grocer or food service distributor.
  • Key experience in the following categories is an asset: customer service leadership, food service or route sales operations, performance management, training and development of front-line personnel.
  • Food handling health and safety requirements. If not certified, complete food safety/sanitation training within 120 days at Catholic Charities expense at a major food bank.
  • Security of the warehouse building and its stock.

Physical Demands
:
  • The employee is required to lift to 60 pounds from a standing position. Must also be able to use such items as hand trucks with 250 lb. load, dollies, carts, manual pallet jack with an 1,800 lb. load and operate a forklift.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to use a computer keyboard and handle heavy boxes and pallets of food; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Required to stoop, kneel or crouch and climb a ladder.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
