Job Description

The Copywriter is responsible for supporting the Digital Marketing Department as part of its in-house content production team. The Copywriter writes, proofreads and edits copy for a variety of digital and print marketing outlets, including AP style writing for press releases/media, headlining for advertising campaigns, press releases, blogs, website landing pages, award nominations, casual travel/lifestyle pieces/short form writing, email copy, and corporate communications. This may include creating slogans, catchphrases, messages, long-form articles, and straplines, as well as scripts for radio jingles and impact videos. Proven track record in AP style copywriting for public relations and digital media advertising copywriting including social media, PPC headlining, and more. This role will require multilingual work in support of our Spanish language media efforts. Along with your application, please submit a portfolio or links to your published works.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Writing clear, persuasive, original copy for press releases, blogs, awards, marketing collateral, internal communication, and digital media in both English and Spanish.
  • Proofreading copy to check spelling and grammar in both English and Spanish.
  • Liaising with Management and Marketing Team and interpreting their requirements.
  • Developing and presenting creative ideas and concepts, often in partnership with the other departments.
  • Amending, revising, or redeveloping adverts or campaigns in response to feedback from the Marketing Team and Senior Leadership.
  • Working on several campaigns at once, sometimes under pressure and often to tight deadlines.
  • Research industry-related topics and identify gaps in our content
  • Prepare and publish articles that describe our company and products in the hotel / vacation ownership space.
  • Using “light” SEO practices to optimize articles and increase visibility (such as, here’s a ‘keyword” let’s make sure to use it in the writing, title, body copy of this article, etc.) a plus.
  • Liaise with Designers to enrich text with visual aids, like images and charts.
  • Shape language and tone used in sales emails, banners, blogs, and other outlets.
  • Ensure all content is up to date.
  • Take ownership of copy briefs and answer them to a very high standard
  • Offer creative ideas and encourage others to share theirs.
  • Check all copy that generated by team members and offer feedback when necessary.
  • Liaise with clients and partners if needed, some in different time zones.
  • Posting completed copy to our proprietary CMS (some experience with CMS posting such as WordPress is a plus).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Experience

  • Proven work experience as a Junior Copywriter, Public Relations Copywriter, Travel Writer, Travel Blogger (with a larger portfolio) or similar role.
  • Portfolio of published articles.
  • 3 years of travel copywriting experience.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems (e.g., WordPress) and ability to learn other systems.
  • An ability to write creative copy both for large pieces of content such as long form articles, corporate tone content such as press releases, and smaller texts (e.g., social media posts/headlines).
  • Significant experience in professional, commercial writing, with the ability to ‘expound’ on very little hard data and create a large piece of content out of thin seed content on programs, products, announcements, and data.
  • A strong record in creating immaculate copy that stands out.
  • The ability to plan and strategize high-profile projects
  • A persuasive and confident approach to creativity.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A keen attention to detail and timescales.
  • Familiarity with creative processes and techniques – including digital media.
  • Confidence in building a rapport with clients and nurturing good working relationships.
  • Solid time-management skills.
  • Basic keyword search knowledge.
  • BS in Marketing, Communications, PR, Journalism or relevant field.
  • Comfortable with producing a significant amount of copy per day (in the 2500 – 4500 word per day range).
  • Experience in writing for travel or hospitality at a chain level a plus.

Education & Certifications

  • 4-year degree from an accredited institution in Marketing or equivalent discipline OR appropriate combination of experience and education.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Multilingual skills. [Expert fluency in English and Spanish.]
  • Experience with generative A.I. prompt engineering [especially in ChatGPT in specific] is a big plus.
  • Extensive experience managing mobile apps and/or web properties and/or back-end digital systems.
  • Experience working with marketing teams in a project/deadline-oriented environment.
  • Comfortable managing discussions with different company stakeholders on many levels, from C-Suite to other content marketing professionals.
  • Solid understanding of current and developing trends for online copy generation.
  • Experience with copy-assistance / generating platforms such as Frase.io, Surfer SEO, Jasper or Scalenut a plus.
  • Passion for travel; experience in hospitality/travel is a plus.
  • Knowledge in HTML and CSS is a plus.
