The pay range listed above reflects the FULL pay range for this position. The expected ENTRY pay range is $19.35 - $23.05 per hour, based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position
Are you passionate about nutrition? As a Nutrition Associate, you will provide services to the participants in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, such as nutrition counseling and education, verification of eligibility, nutrition assessment, and education.

Beginning October 1, 2023, Maricopa County WIC clinics will follow one of two schedules: Monday 8:00am-6:30pm and Tuesday-Thursday 7:30-6:00pm or Monday 8:00am-6:30pm, Tuesday-Thursday 7:30am-4:30pm, and Friday 7:30am-12:00pm. We are closed Saturdays and Sundays.

We Require
Associate's degree in Nutrition by the time of hire, and a Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration or NDTR eligible and able to pass the credentialing exam within 12 months of hire with the first attempt at credentialing exam occurring within three months of hire OR
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition by the time of hire

Job Contributions
Provide one-on-one nutrition counseling for participants who require more than basic nutrition counseling services, such as nutrition assessments, participant-centered nutrition counseling, and education, documentation of nutrition care plan, nutrition, and breastfeeding education
Assess eligibility and certify participants for the WIC program, including determination of WIC benefits, performing and interpreting hemoglobin screening tests, and accurate anthropometric measurements
Assign and issue appropriate food benefits, documents, and assures accuracy of participant files, and refer participants to other local and state agencies as needed
Conduct group nutrition education, including facilitated group discussions both in-person and on online platforms
Working Conditions
Exerting 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly
Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
May be assigned to work at alternate WIC sites, as needed
Requires travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles or private vehicles used on County business
This is not a 100% telework position. There is an option to work in a shared clinic space, or time may be split between working remotely from your home and in a shared clinic space. Home access to a computer, mobile device, and the internet is necessary if you choose to split time between home and office. Daily communication with co-workers will be through virtual meetings, email, and Microsoft Teams messaging. Participant interactions will include remote appointments via video and phone as well as in-person appointments. A flexible work schedule is needed that may include evenings
Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency
Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
