Primary Purpose

Manages and directs the Wildfire Mitigation Program Regulatory Analytics team within Wildfire Mitigation Strategy to ensure resources are optimized in support of strategic initiatives and activities. Responsible for the filing of the Utility Wildfire Mitigation Maturity Assessment (UWMMA), ensuring compliance with risk modeling requirements and OEIS workshops, supporting the development and visualization of risk models. Responsible for supporting the development of compliance filings such as the Annual Wildfire Mitigation Plan, PSPS Pre and Post Season Reports, PSPS ten-day reports, General Rate Case, and any associated data requests. Analyzes and determines regulatory impacts of existing requirements, new requirements and mandates to build business case for additional resources. Participates in joint-utility meetings to understand best-practices and to benchmark SDG&E’s wildfire mitigation strategy and reporting. Collaborates with departments outside of Wildfire Mitigation including regulators, California utilities, and other SDG&E departments to maintain up to date knowledge of industry-related issues in wildfire risk reporting and strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the development of risk spend efficiency analysis for RAMP, GRC and annual WMP including any new risk reporting requirements for the annual plan.
  • Facilitate the thorough documentation of risk spend efficiency analysis to ensure transparency, repeatability and auditability of the work as well as documentation of qualitative write-ups to support RSE analysis.
  • Develop and/or update processes as needed to streamline ongoing development of risk spend efficiencies.
  • Build and enhance internal alliances with key operating leadership and subject experts to utilize appropriate metrics and analytics to support wildfire mitigation plan proposals.
  • Lead and manage team of data analysts and project managers to ensure resources are optimized in support of strategic initiatives and activities. Prioritize workload based on resources, while promoting employee development.
  • Develop and deliver dashboards, reports and presentations on regulatory wildfire risk analytics topics.
  • Build and foster external alliances to maintain up to date knowledge of industry-related issues in wildfire risk reporting.
  • Serve key strategic and advocacy role for information systems that support wildfire modeling efforts, providing common platform for wildfire risk analytics that drives consistency and repeatability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Risk Management, Economics or Finance, related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • 5 or more years relevant experience, preferably in the areas of Data Analytics, Utility operations and/or Regulatory.
  • Must be knowledgeable of critical utility assets, including electric distribution and transmission infrastructure.
  • Must be knowledgeable of CPUC and OEIS regulations and requirements regarding risk analytics.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to translate complex analysis into clear and effective management communications.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership and management skills.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office two to three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written communication skills to prepare materials on technical and non-technical matters for various levels of management and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical ability and judgement in identifying problems and providing solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate solid interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to review, analyze and recommend improvements to systems, processes and measures of performance.
  • Knowledge of project management applications and their use.
  • Knowledge of the Wildfire Mitigation Plan as well as general wildfire sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in data management skills, as well as general understanding of GIS techniques.

Fire Science & Climate Adaptation may operate 24 hours/day, 7 days/week during in particular Red Flag events and requires the ability to work rotating shifts as well as weekends and holidays. This position will require support during non-business hours, especially during the typical southern California fire season.

SDG&E offers a competitive total rewards package that goes beyond base salary. This position is eligible for an annual performance-based incentive (bonus) as well as other merit-based recognition. Pay: From $107,700.00 per year
