Supporting more than 12,000 employees in a complex, multi-divisional business environment, and under general direction of the Director of Health & Productivity, the Leave of Absence Specialist role has responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Demonstrating expertise in administering leaves of absence
  • Providing a high level of customer service to employees, timely conflict resolution, and sound judgment in triaging and escalating issues
  • Superior knowledge of the FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation, and other local, state and federal leave laws as well as best practice for employee leave communication and process improvement
  • Managing accommodations and paid and unpaid leave cases of varying types to include intermittent, maternity, military personal, and more, some of which are complex in nature
  • Coordinate leaves concurrent with disability and workers compensation benefits, engaging other stakeholders as appropriate including benefits and legal staff
  • Determine if employee is eligible for the leave, calculate duration of leave and monitor activity during leave to ensure employee does not exceed allowed time
  • Participate in leave specific project initiatives as requested (i.e. leave training, communications enhancements, etc.); recommend policy and procedure changes

Skills/Knowledge

  • Ability to build credibility and trust with employees, HR and management
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills with all levels of the organization to ensure all parties understand their responsibilities during an individual’s absence
  • Works collaboratively within and across business units and demonstrates proves experience with conflict management and influencing skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment by anticipating the consequences of actions and weighing multiple, sometimes conflicting priorities
  • Proficiency with software including Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Workday or other HR system

Education and Experience

  • BA/BS in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or other applicable field preferred
  • PHR, SPHR, CEBS, or other HR certification preferred
  • 2-3 years of HR experience preferred and 3 years experience in leave administration, preferably in a multi-state environment

Pay Range: $27.22 - $177.280 hourly

This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
