Communications Director, State Power Division

About the Working Families Party

The Working Families Party (WFP) is the progressive party for the multiracial working class, fighting for a nation that works for the many, not the few. We recruit, train, and support transformational candidates up and down the ballot — and run them to win.

We believe that no matter where we come from or what our color, most of us want the same things. We want to earn enough to thrive, not just survive, and leave a better future for our kids. We want healthy food and clean water, safe neighborhoods and a safe world. We want to be free.

The Working Families Party is regular people coming together across our differences to make a better future for us all. We’re a multiracial party that fights for workers over bosses and people over the powerful. We want an America which realizes the promise – unrealized in our history – of freedom and equality for all.

The State Power Division is a newly created division that includes nearly 100 staff members in 14 chartered WFP states. State-level operations endorse and elect thousands of candidates each year, including some of the most dynamic elected officials in the country. And our work at the state level goes beyond serving as electoral operatives. In each state we are building a strong and aligned party infrastructure including member organizations and individual activists and leaders, a cycle-to-cycle voter engagement program that focuses on the multi-racial working class and a plan to win governing power with a strong focus on organizing and supporting caucuses of legislators.

The Working Families Party is seeking a seasoned and multi-talented communications professional to tell the collective story of our work at the state and local level to a variety of internal and external audiences and to support our chartered states and regions to develop and execute impactful communications strategies. This position is ideal for someone who can think big and design systems and infrastructure, is excited about coaching and developing our state and regional communication leads and is also able to get into the details of execution. This is a newly created position that will require working with digital and communications professionals across the organization to bring state-level leaders and stories into the overall organizational communications and narrative strategy.

  • Develop a vision for and manage the creation of promotional materials that center and tell the story of state level work.
Systems and Infrastructure:
  • Develop centralized infrastructure that supports state level communications work and increases internal information flow about state level work.
