The Staff Failure Analysis Engineer will be responsible for working with the different teams to identify failure modes and possible test methods to detect them at the initial development phase, then explore test methods to conduct validation, create and obtain data and do a deep analysis of the cause of a failure and the possible solutions for it.
In this role, you will:- Conduct thorough and detailed failure analysis investigations by leveraging extensive expertise and scientific knowledge to address complex issues across all systems, modules, and components of our vehicle.
- Build and maintain solid relationships with various engineering departments to understand their failure analysis requirements, aid in issue replication/simulation, and inform them about the capabilities of our failure analysis and materials testing labs.
- Take charge of failure analysis processes for situations stemming from reliability tests, product development, and robots already in use, ensuring that the primary cause is distinguished from secondary factors.
- Design, guide, and co-create testing methods and procedures for new and existing technologies.
- Organize, manage, and carry out tests to aid in achieving critical milestones for vehicle projects.
- Implement protocols to establish standard operating procedures and best practices
- Establish failure modes and effects analysis process to systemize investigations
Qualifications- Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
- Comprehensive understanding of stress, strain, cracking, fatigue, and associated failure modes.
- 10+ years of cumulative experience in the field of testing and validation
- Experience using 3D CAD software collaboratively (Catia, 3DX.)
- Proven ability to manage projects, particularly in facilitating vehicle launches by providing essential test data.
- Proficiency in handling a diverse array of structural and functional engineering materials such as metals, polymers, composites, adhesives, fluids, glass, and ceramics.
- In-depth knowledge of material mechanics principles and metallurgical fundamentals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong work ethic with commitment to accuracy
- Hands-on experience with spectroscopy techniques (SEM/EDS, ESCA, XRF, Raman, FTIR, DB FIB, etc…)
- Experience with optical/digital microscopy, fractography, sample mounting, sample preparation
- Working knowledge of industry standards (ASTM, ISO, DIN, etc…)
- First hand experience sourcing, bring up, and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Bonus Qualifications- Experience with non-metal and composite material failure analysis
- Experience in a factory setting launching a new product
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office or G-Suite tools for documentation and presentation
- Experience using Confluence, Jira, Asana, or other project management tools
- A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
Compensation
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $177,000 to $294,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
