About the role Specializing in DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), I took an empathetic and culturally competent approach to designing educational experiences on multiple digital platforms (Google Drive, Zoom, and Google Classroom) for students (grades PreK-5). Assigned to Chenango Forks Elementary School, I collaborated with 3 fellow interns to provide educational equity to students during the COVID-19 pandemic. 📚 I created and spearheaded the Diversity & Inclusion Reading Project, compiling a list of children's books about protagonists from diverse backgrounds written by authors from different ethnic and racial backgrounds, the LGBTQ+ community, etc. I recruited 8 interns from other community school districts to virtually record themselves reading these books to show to elementary school students. The goal of this project was to celebrate culture and identity and amplify the voices of underrepresented authors in children's literature. ✦ Researched 100+ children's books about protagonists from diverse backgrounds and distributed virtual reading recordings to present to 1,300+ students in Binghamton's community school districts ✦ Collaborated with Chenango Forks District coordinator and 3 fellow interns to implement the Homework Helpers Program, providing academic assistance to 10+ students (grades 4-8) struggling with online learning and adjusting from online to in-person schooling ✦ Coordinated with 10+ local organizations to participate in the Christmas Basket Program (an initiative that fundraises money year-round to provide food, clothes, and gifts to Chenango Forks families during the holiday season) ✦ Designed 3 digital posters to distribute to 30+ local organizations advertising for the Christmas Basket Program
