About the role
Wrote concept paper and grant for AmeriCorps VISTA in 2021. Process included identifying proper host sites, ensuring a full understanding of the difference between an AmeriCorps VISTA member and an employee, and discussing host site requirements and how they can properly be met.
Designed and directed AmeriCorps VISTA Program for 3 VISTA members and 3 program sites across New York State with plans to expand to 6 sites in other high need areas. Successfully recruited and placed 2 VISTA members in the first year during the difficult recruitment times in the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Developed and implement community outreach and engagement plans based on program area needs using Community Asset Mapping and Participatory Analysis for Community Action (PACA) tools to ensure proper entry into new communities and determine gaps in outreach.
Engaged with community partners and Double Up sites through presentations and meetings to teach about the Double Up Food Bucks program and how individuals and organizations can use it.
Provided support for Double Up users regarding program inquiries, locations, and technical issues. SNAP beneficiaries and program administers around New York State were able to call regarding any challenge they experience, and all issues are quickly addressed.
Used feedback from previous market users to develop resources to ease their use of the program. Some of these materials included better resources on the Double Up Food Bucks website, paper materials such as brief cards explaining the program, and videos to explain how the program works and walked through the application.
Managed Request for Applications for seasonal Double Up Food Bucks period while fielding questions from applying locations. Process ensures new sites can begin to administer the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) incentive during the summer months.
Designed and updated Geographic Information Systems maps to create visualizations of Double Up site locations, program growth, and to keep track of newly applied markets.
Maintained and developed relationships with community partners throughout New York State to strengthen networks and create systems of support for Double Up participants, including SNAP beneficiaries, store owners, and farmers.
Developed and administered a train the trainers module for each new participating site with each training catered to the specific needs of the host site. Each training is broken down into various pieces with different methods of explanation to create a system of reference that works for each person.

Webmaster of Grants Committee (2017-2018). Updated resources and layout, created content, and encouraged traffic to website by offering clearer navigation pathways and promoting use to interested volunteers.
Developed guides intended to ease the grant process for other volunteers by recognizing trends in common mistakes and finding ways to alleviate those problems for future grant writers. Each section of a typical grant, including capacity building, sustainability, and the budget, were broken down with the intent of asking the grant writer questions they may not have considered and give them more context of their projects as a whole.
Created a model garden used to train 30 village children and 15 adults about effective modern water conservation methods. Garden was developed based on extensive trainings provided by Peace Corps agriculture staff and through resources provided by various experts in permaculture familiar with East African climates and terrain.
Designed a unique curriculum for teaching parents with children under the age of 5 about nutrition and permagardening.
Initiated collaborative plan for a large school garden consisting of Orange Fleshed Sweet Potatoes and a variety of leafy green vegetables to improve nutrition in the school for over 200 students.
Trained 20 mothers in the community in weekly workshops about basic entrepreneurial and business skills and assisted in the development income-generation activities focused on the sale of unique foods such as cornbread and guacamole.
Taught English to a class of 90 Standard 3 students three times a week and individually tutored 5 students from home through the use of games, songs, one-on-one lessons based on education levels, and standard written and/or reading lessons.
Assisted other Peace Corps Volunteers with their grant writing in which was the primary reviewer of 13 grants and secondary reviewer of 8 grants.
Conducted in-depth analysis and research of host community in Tanzania through discussions with various members of the community, consulting with other organizations in the area, finding historical data, and interviewing village leaders.
