You'll find 174 rooms, a rooftop Peruvian-inspired restaurant by Top Chef Stephanie Izard, Cabra (a sibling to Cabra at The Hoxton, Chicago); our all-day lobby restaurant Moonlarks; plus a rooftop pool and loads of outdoor seating to enjoy that LA weather.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Director of People & Culture to join the The Hoxton Downtown LA.  The ideal candidate is an experienced human resource professional in all aspects, is a trusted leader, can lead change, works quickly and is a natural collaborator.

What you’ll do…

  • Lead short- and long-term strategy planning and execution management of the People & Culture function for the hotel.
  • Recommend the department’s budget and manage expenses within approved budget constraints. 
  • Major areas of responsibility/ management include, but are not limited to: recruitment, wage and salary administration, benefits, training, employee/labor relations, organizational development and payroll. 
  • Work closely with General Manager in implementing, achieving and maintaining the property goals and objectives.
  • You’ll be the culture champion for the The Hoxton brand, promoting a fair, safe and equitable environment, and championing empowerment, innovation, development, and communication.
  • You’ll ensure that the hotels operate within the employment law framework in your operating state and locality. 
  • You’ll act as an advisor to all managers on all aspects of employment and support team relations and performance management.
  • You’ll develop, implement, and manage the nuts and bolts of the department, our policies, processes, and procedures.
  • You'll get involved and lead projects. We want to hear your ideas and get your input.
  • You'll create awareness for The Hoxton, Downtown LA and Ennismore through strategic activities to attract talent to hotels across our brands.
  • You’ll lead our efforts in embedding The Hoxton and Ennismore values into the team.
  • You’ll lead and manage the People & Culture team.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for…

  • You have at least 4 years experience as a director in a human resource capacity; preferably in an upscale or lifestyle brand hotel
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to the changing needs of the operation.
  • Ability to take ownership of issues, solve problems and make effective decisions.
  • Passion for hospitality – whether that’s a drink, a meal, an event or a bed for the night 
  • You’re a great communicator – both verbally and written – and a great listener. Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • You have the ability to lift, pull and push a moderate weight. 
  • You are a natural at leading and managing others, and you lead by example, creating an environment where your team can be their best self.
  • You execute. You get things done. You are scarily organized. An eagle-eye for detail, you can spot a slip in standards from a mile away. 
  • You know how to hold people accountable – but make people feel good at the same time.
  • You love people and want to scout, hire and train the best team out there.
  • You can keep a secret. You exercise discretion when handling team issues.
