About Also.
We’re Also, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride also—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.
Also is looking for a Controls Test Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and reliability of powertrain domain controllers and embedded control systems for our electric vehicles. You will be responsible for designing and executing comprehensive test cases for Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines to identify and resolve software issues. This includes developing and maintaining automated test suites that encompass unit, functional, and system tests, while performing hands-on testing to validate control algorithms and software functionality.
What You Will Do
Design and execute comprehensive Controls software test cases for Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines to identify and resolve software issues.
Develop and maintain automated test suites, including unit, functional, and system tests, as well as perform hands-on testing.
Collaborate with system engineers and software developers to create and implement test cases and verification criteria for powertrain domain controllers.
Automate test processes, enhance existing test scripts, and develop custom tools for testing and validation.
Troubleshoot systems and ECUs using lab and measurement tools, including power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, Vector CANalyzer, CANape, and in-house tools.
Identify, report, and track software bugs; analyze logs to troubleshoot issues.
Develop simulation models and test scripts to execute I&T events.
Perform ECU-level testing on MIL and HiL setups and validate control algorithms in both simulation and hardware environments.
Contribute to requirements, SIL, and regression testing efforts.
Define and execute regression test cases, establishing pass/fail criteria.
What You Will Bring
Bachelor’s or master's degree in Controls, Electrical Engineering, or related field, with a focus on control systems.
5+ years of hands-on experience testing embedded systems or automotive ECUs.
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, including model-based design, Stateflow, and developing automation scripts (C programming is a plus).
Strong experience with automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN) and tools such as Vector CANalyzer, CANape, and scripting for signal measurement and command.
Expertise in model-based software verification using MATLAB/Simulink and related tools.
Familiarity with automating UDS test cases (DoIP experience is a plus).
Working knowledge of vehicle dynamics, electric powertrains, and control theory.
Solid understanding of dynamical systems, advanced control techniques (e.g., model predictive control), and high-bandwidth applications.
Experience with resource-constrained microcontrollers and rapid prototyping platforms.
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and continuous integration workflows.
Why Also.
We’re passionate about helping the world find a better way to get there—wherever it is you’re headed.
