Functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse, acts as assistive personnel to provide care to patients, some of the functions include customer service skills, obtaining vital sign, point of care testing, phlebotomy, EKG's and transportation of patients in the Emergency Department.
Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick and bleeding time) according to established procedure of the Hospital.
Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
Determines priority of STAT draws. Ensures timely delivery of all patient specimens to lab for testing via the ED chute or via transport to lab.
Performs electrocardiograms.
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direction of licensed personnel.
Maintains current knowledge/certification.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities necessary.
Assumes clerical duties necessary to assist healthcare team to provide patient care.
Receives and directs phone calls and when needed in the department.
Will act as a receptionist, greet patients and answer phones when required.
Is responsible for the daily cleaning of equipment and maintaining neatness throughout the department.
Minimum Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum Work Experience
Phlebotomy training and/or minimum one (1) year experience as phlebotomistFormal training/equivalent experience, such as a nursing assistant, CNA, or EMT preferred.Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based care setting.Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.Basic computer knowledge is preferred.Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.Required to comply with OSHA regulations for the N95 respirator training and fit testing
