About the role:

In the role as Senior Director, International Business Development and External Innovation you will lead efforts to proactively identify and evaluate external regional (ex-US) growth opportunities for inbound partnering/acquisition in all therapeutic areas of interest to Biogen.

 

You will work closely with the Regions and the External Innovation and Transactions organizations within Corporate Development to evaluate external regional opportunities (including business case development), shape the transaction and usher opportunities through the corporate business development process.  This leadership role will also maintain relationships across the various stakeholders within ex-US Regions to promote Biogen as partner of choice for international/ex-US BD opportunities.

You report to the Head External Innovation, Business Development and M&A.

Location: Baar, Switzerland working as per our hybrid HR policy

 

What you’ll do:

  • Proactively survey and competitive landscape the ex-US emerging clinical programs and marketed products in therapeutic/disease areas of strategic interest
  • Partner with senior leadership in ex-US Regions to align regional and corporate strategy and prioritize growth opportunities for the regions
  • Develop complex assessment, scenarios, prosecution rationales, and recommendations for the advancement of regional external opportunities
  • Lead focused cross-functional teams in the early evaluation of opportunities including the business case development, commercial fit, and the strategic merit to advance (or exclude) opportunities. Integrate complex data sets and provide clear recommendations to senior management.
  • Lead clinical and commercial cross-functional due diligence deal teams to advance external opportunities to term sheet.
  • Present proposals for approval to senior management
  • Partner with senior leadership in ex-US Regions thru diligence and deal negotiation processes.

Your expertise in regional (ex US) business development, combined with a robust industry network with clinical/commercial pharma companies and the biotech/ VC community outside US, enables you to identify and advance high value external opportunities.

    Qualifications

     

    • Advanced/graduate degree required – MBA or Ph.D. in the life sciences or related field or MD.
    • Minimum 15 years relevant experience in biopharma
    • Demonstrated experience in regional (ex-US) search and evaluation and the business development process
    • Broad and comprehensive expertise in multiple therapeutic areas and the international business
    • Broad and comprehensive expertise of the clinical, commercial and competitive landscape(s), to develop scenarios and prosecution rationales for external opportunities
    • Broad knowledge of key disciplines (R&D, Manufacturing, Finance). Comprehensive knowledge of drug development and particularly regional commercialization
    • Broad and comprehensive experience on cross functional project leadership
    • Demonstrated ability to engage with senior management and drive high- impact decisions
