National Purchasing Estimator

Job Description

David Weekley Homes is looking for an experienced Estimator who will share their knowledge and learn new skills in a fun, intense and challenging environment.  While experience is appreciated, the ability to learn and apply new systems is equally important if not more so.

If you can appreciate the usefulness of a good “To-Do” list, if pivot tables are your jam, and if you believe a well thought out comparison chart is a thing of beauty, then there is a good chance you are a good fit for this position.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in planning meetings, status updates and other as-needed face-to-face, audio- and/or video-teleconferencing sessions.
  • Navigate, read and thoroughly understand working drawings.
  • Establish and communicate estimating methodology across departments and trade/supplier base.
  • Create unit takeoffs for entire homes, options and plan changes using a variety of technologies and templates.
  • Accurately and efficiently input take off data into the purchasing platform.
  • Create tools such as Excel pivot tables to analyze and communicate data accuracy and plan comparisons.

Qualifications

Technical Skills- you need to have or know:

  • An ability to solve complex problems, communicate clearly, and share a sense of urgency.
  • The capacity to thrive in a small, flexible and dynamic environment, contributing to a high-performance, low-stress corporate culture.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Knowledge in residential estimating practices and principles

It would be nice for you to have or know:

  • JD Edwards or other database system knowledge
  • Autodesk Design Review and estimating software experience

The Candidate we are looking for is also:

  • A good fit with our team. We need someone the team can trust, rely on, hang out with, bounce ideas off of, and generally interact with in a positive way both personally and professionally.
  • An incredibly hard worker. You reliably see tasks through to the end, without supervision, and ask for more. You know when to ask for help and you give bad news early.
  • Super focused. You have the ability to work through complex problems and large amounts of data while staying focused on the team’s goals.
  • A superior communicator. You effectively explain concepts and processes, written and verbally, to peers and customers.
  • An efficient and accurate planner. You know where you want to be in two weeks and know how to get there.  However, your day won’t be ruined if an unexpected task pops up.
