Junior Regional Alumni Coordinator- 536307

The Office of Alumni Affairs of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA/P/A) provides resources to sustain engagement through support to U.S. Missions worldwide and outreach to almost 2 million exchange alumni in the U.S. and abroad.  Our work strengthens USG alumni identity, expands networks that benefit both Americans and international participants, and supports U.S. foreign policy objectives by maintaining relationships with this large and diverse group of influential people with firsthand knowledge of the United States.  The office also manages the Exchange Alumni website (exchangealumni.state.gov), a global online community for alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchanges programs. 

 To provide contract support to ECA/P/A, the Junior Regional Alumni Coordinator will support coordination between ECA and U.S. missions to engage with exchange alumni in one or more regions of the world. In close coordination with appropriate contacts in ECA and Alumni Affairs, the Junior Regional Alumni Coordinator works closely with the relevant stakeholders to design and carry out in-person and virtual alumni programming and provide information to USG offices on resources for exchange alumni.  In addition, the Junior Regional Alumni Coordinator will: support the administrative processes such as tracking alumni statistics and highlights; and outreach activities such as drafting social media and website stories.  Regions assigned can be one or more of the following:  Sub-Saharan Africa (AF); East Asia and the Pacific (EAP), Europe and Eurasia (EUR); South and Central Asia (SCA), Western Hemisphere (WHA), Near East (NEA), and the United States (U.S.). 

  • Work with U.S. embassies, State Department colleagues, NGOs, and alumni to build and maintain the global alumni network.
  • Maintain regional and country profile reports on engagement projects supported by the Office of Alumni Affairs.
  • Collect stories and draft content and highlights for senior leadership, website, and social media, about alumni program successes and send regular updates that demonstrate the impact of alumni.
  • Conduct outreach presentations and promote the Exchange Alumni website through presentations to current program participants, alumni, partner NGOs, and State Department colleagues. Promote Exchange Alumni web resources to State Department stakeholders.
  • Conduct briefings with outbound Foreign Service Officers and provide guidance to field-based Locally Employed Staff on alumni engagement best practices and opportunities.
  • Coordinate alumni thematic seminars in collaboration with the regional bureau, posts, and implementing partners.
  • Provide back-up support to the Regional Alumni Coordinators and Outreach Team and for administrative tasks.
  • Conduct alumni engagement training for Embassy Alumni Coordinators and other USG staff, including training on the role of the Alumni Office, alumni engagement strategy, and the use of databases and other technology.
  • For the U.S. alumni portfolio, engage directly with alumni, design and implement professional development seminars and other activities of interest to U.S. citizen alumni.
  • Assist in various general office administration duties as assigned.
  • A Bachelor’s degree, with a focus in international affairs, regional studies, public relations, or a related field.
  • At least three full years of specialized experience which provided the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position outlined above.
  • Basic familiarity with U.S. foreign policy and international educational and cultural exchanges.
  • Excellent computer skills, with proven experience in or the ability to learn the following applications:
    • MS Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
    • Adobe Creative Suite
    • Email marketing tools
    • Salesforce
  • Experience with international educational and cultural exchanges to develop program initiatives and provide information to targeted audiences.
  • Experience gathering, interpreting, and synthesizing data to inform pertinent issues to management and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in written and oral communication to provide guidance, make recommendations, and resolve problems.
  • Proven excellence in writing and oral presentations.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and deliver high-quality, accurate work within targeted deadlines;
  • Ability to successfully work as a team to accomplish all tasks; and
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level.
