Electrical Process Engineer

Our passion is designing and building powerful 3D printing tools. Our manufacturing team is responsible for research and development of the manufacturing processes for all of Formlabs products. They work cross functionally with mechanical design, electrical, and materials teams.

If you’re excited to help us troubleshoot processes, ramp manufacturing, and launch products, we want you as a Electrical Process Engineer.

The Job:Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Electrical Systems Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
    • Analyze and troubleshoot electrical systems related to process control, automation, and equipment operation.
    • Monitor electrical equipment performance (motors, sensors, control panels, etc.) and identify areas for improvement.
  • Automation and Control System Optimization:
    • Recommend and implement improvements or redesigns for electrical and automation systems to meet safety, quality, production, and cost goals.
    • Focus on optimizing process control, sensor integration, and automation efficiency.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot electrical systems related to process control, automation, and equipment operation.

  • Monitor performance of electrical equipment (motors, sensors, control panels, etc.) and identify areas for improvement.

 

  • Equipment Installation and Modification (Electrical Focus):
    • Prepare work areas and coordinate with the maintenance team for process improvement and electrical equipment installation.
    • Develop and evaluate alternatives and cost estimates for new electrical equipment installations and modifications.
    • Help with the electrical design and implementation of new automation and control systems.
  • Documentation and SOPs (Electrical Focus):
    • Review, revise, and create standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other technical documentation related to electrical and automation systems.
  • Automation and Control System Scale-Up:
    • Lead the electrical and automation aspects of scaling up new 3D printing material processes.
    • Evaluate and select appropriate electrical and control equipment for new process implementations.
  • Equipment Selection and Evaluation (Electrical Focus):
    • Assist in the investigation and selection of electrical and automation equipment for new 3D printing material processes, considering factors like sensor requirements, control logic, and power distribution.
  • Effective Communication:
    • Maintain clear and effective communication at all levels of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

You:

  • Must have a BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, automation, instrumentation, and control.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the maintenance team.
  • Safety-conscious and committed to promoting safe work practices.

Bonus Points:

  • 2-3 years of experience in a chemical processing or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electrical CAD programs (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safe practices related to industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience with PLC programming, HMI design, and industrial networking.
  • Experience with VFD's, and three phase power systems.
  • Experience with sensor technology, and process control loops.
  • Experience with NEC (National Electric Code).
  • Experience with instrumentation.
  • Exposure/experience with automation, packaging lines, and plant engineering duties.
