Pier Coordinator

Shift:                         ALL

SUMMARY

 

Manages materials movements, Subcontractor Lay-Down assignments, Pier traffic, Pier cleanliness, HAZMAT and Trash disposal. Reports to Rigging Foreman and works with Trades, Sub-Contractors, Navy, NWRMC Production, AIT's, Suppliers, Environmental Agencies, customer Safety Representative, OSHA, and NASSCO Material Handling Department. Ensure Pier is kept clean and containments are properly labeled. Manage material going aboard and coming off the Ship. Manage HAZMAT on Pier, ensure proper labeling and disposal. Serve as the Point of Contact for Ships Force, AIT's, Sima, FitcPAC, for Services, and Forklifts. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned. Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Ensure Pier and lay down area is kept clean and equipment is tagged and stored properly
  • Manage material going onboard and coming off the ship
  • Manage material and equipment on Pier, ensure proper labeling and disposal
  • Serve as the Point of Contact for project management and trades for movements from ships, shops and warehouses
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
  • Regular, reliable on-site attendance is an essential function of this job

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High School Graduate or equivalent, and six (6) year Cumulative trade and/or Production Control experience
  • Must be able to operate forklifts and aerial lifts
  • Must be able to acquire DBIDS
  • Understand shipboard and industrial safety requirements
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA standard items
  • Must have a good command of the English language both written and oral
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to convey thoughts and ideas in a consistent logical manner
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

    • Material Delivery Procedures
    • NASSCO Safety Policy
    • Forklift Operation must have (or be able to obtain) a forklift license
    • HAZMAT Training (or be able to obtain)

Physical requirements including lifting up to 50lbs infrequently and walking throughout the shipyard. High noise levels and High-low ambient air temperatures.  Most time will be spent on cement pier. Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required. Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility and the drydock. Must be able to spend up to 70% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear. Must have good eye/hand coordination. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment. These areas can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Reports to the assigned Rigging Foreman and works with the project management team for coordination efforts.

 

          UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required.  Must have good eye/hand coordination.  Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls; and to talk and hear.  Must have physical ability to walk to all locations.  Exposure to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts. High levels of constant noise and dust may be present depending on the location of the work site.  Must be able to gain access to all work locations including government and private ship yards and/or vessels.

 

Pay Range:    $24.50 - $32.17  Hourly

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity.  At NASSCO Bremerton we anticipate making salary offers between the minimum and midpoint of salary range. Offers will be based on experience, abilities, and knowledge similar to the NASSCO Job being applied for NASSCO employees performing similar work.
 
As a NASSCO team member, you (and your family) will have access to medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, and other voluntary insurance benefits. Additionally, NASSCO employees earn paid vacation from date of hire, accrued at 2.31 hours for every week worked, seven paid holidays, and one personal day per year. Team members participating in a 401(k) retirement plan will receive a 6% match on a 6% enrollment election.  Additionally, we offer tuition and training reimbursement(s).
