We seek an adventurous and passionate Industrial Designer with exceptional design skills to join our design team at our global development center in Shenzhen, China. 

This role focuses on innovating in the audio industry, particularly in the Professional product category, and advancing Harman’s prestigious audio brands. The work of the designer will have a global impact, as the products are intended for use in all major global markets. With about five years of experience, the ideal candidate will bring a strong design vision to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and have a strong motivation to push the boundaries in this product category. As a part of our team, you will contribute at all phases of the design process from conceptualization to production and work closely with our manufacturing partners.

Your Team

This position reports to the Design Director and collaborates with global industrial designers, user experience experts, and product development teams both locally and internationally.

What You Will Do

• Create next-generation Professional product designs for HARMAN Professional brands, including JBL Professional, AKG, Soundcraft, and BSS with a global business impact. These products are designed for high-quality sound reproduction in professional settings. This industry spans a broad spectrum of applications including live sound, studio recording & broadcast, film production, and installation in public venues and commercial spaces.
• Develop concept designs in 2D and 3D formats and prototypes using in-house or third-party resources.
• Define product design specifications and CMF (Color, Material, Finish) documentation for manufacturing and work closely with suppliers to ensure design intent is achieved.
• Present new designs to the global design management and product development teams.
• Investigate and propose new fit-and-finish options and CMF trends.
• Work with global teams to develop innovative, trend-defining product concepts and ensure project delivery with exceptional attention to detail.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and customer needs.
• Apply design thinking processes in all concept, strategy, and implementation phases.
• Curate & produce compelling and captivating visual content to showcase our work to the external design community on platforms such as Behance & Instagram.
• Generate blue-sky, category defining concepts that open new business opportunities for HARMAN Professional and present them to the business.

What You Need

• 5+ years of industrial design experience with an impressive portfolio.
• Proven expertise in consumer or professional product design.
• Solid knowledge of design processes from trend research and strategy to manufacturing execution.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, 3D modeling (Rhinoceros, KeyShot), and photorealistic rendering.
• Strong knowledge of Materials, Colors, and Finishes (CMF).
• Excellent communication, presentation, and multi-tasking skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Product Design or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to solve creative problems and bring concepts to life visually and physically.

What is Nice to Have

• Familiarity with audio product design.
• Parametric design skills (Grasshopper scripting).
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling methods, and assembly techniques.
• Detail-oriented with a dedication to documentation work.
• Strong interpersonal skills and team spirit.
• Quick learner with self-motivation and the ability to generate multiple concepts for a product.
