The Safety Companion reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Safety Companion performs continual one-on-one patient monitoring under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

As a Safety Companion for Northwestern Medicine, you are stepping into a vital role that enhances patient care during nighttime shifts at our facility in Lake Forest, IL. Your main focus will be to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, providing them with the support they need while working closely with our nursing staff. At Northwestern Medicine, we value every interaction and emphasize a positive workplace culture, allowing you to feel truly fulfilled through your work. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a constant presence at the bedside of assigned patients to monitor their conditions, offering comforting conversations for patients experiencing agitation or confusion, and working to identify any potential hazards in the patient environment. You will also support patients in their daily activities as directed by nursing staff. To excel as a Safety Companion, a high school diploma or equivalent is required, but your compassion and dedication will be the true assets that set you apart.
