The Technical Services Archivist (Archivist 3) is a member of the Archival Technical Services (ATS) unit, and is responsible for leading and performing archival accessioning and arrangement and description activities, and serving as the unit manager for external project requests. The Archivist is a highly collaborative position, working regularly with all members of the Archival Technical Services unit, as well as with partners in many other units throughout the Special Collections & Area Studies division.
The Archivist has primary responsibility for leading and performing core archival work on collections and projects in all areas the unit is responsible for, including: accessioning, full archival processing, preliminary processing, archival description remediation and/or enhancement, and all other activities that support the lifetime custodial needs of archival materials held by the University Libraries Special Collections units. In leading and completing this work, the Archivist applies recognized archival standards and best practices to archival materials in a wide range of size, format, language, and complexity. The Archivist performs this work both independently and as a member of collaborative project teams, serving as both a team lead and team member.
Additionally, the Archivist serves as the unit project manager for project requests originating across several Libraries’ units requiring collections work prior to the project, including iterative work to process or re-process collections to a different level, preparing materials to enter various reformatting workflows, and preparing materials to be included in public-facing programming. The Archivist receives project requests, reviews collections to determine the archival work necessary to meet the requests, and coordinates and/or performs all necessary archival work. Additionally, the Archivist maintains administrative documentation of project request work, ensuring collection contents and activities are accounted for throughout full project timelines.
The Archivist collaborates with the unit’s student employment program managers to include student employees on their archival project work, and the Archivist provides effective training, supervision, and feedback to student employees.
This position actively supports the teaching and research objectives of University Libraries Special Collections units. The Archivist consistently demonstrates commitment to Ohio State University Libraries values and promotes an organizational culture of Discovery, Connection, Integrity, and Stewardship (https://library.osu.edu/strategic-directions) as well as dedication to advance the work of the Archival Technical Services unit. Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in a relevant field focusing on archives, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 4 years’ experience of applied technical services work with archival collections, such as: accessioning, processing, collection surveying, description creation/revision, and/or any other work that directly applies the standards and best practices of the archival profession to describe and/or manage archival collection holdings, including demonstrated experience successfully working on collections of high complexity. Demonstrated experience applying the standards and best practices of the archival profession. Experience planning and/or leading projects involving archival collections work. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
Desired Qualifications:
Five or more years experience of applied technical services work with archival collections Experience supervising student employees, interns, volunteers (or an equivalent level of supervision), preferably in an archival setting.

The posting range for this job is $51,000-$61,000 annually.
