Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) JOB DESCRIPTION


Position Title: Certified Nursing Assistant

Reports To: Director of Nursing 

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Direct Reports: No

Department: Nursing


Position Summary:

As the Certified Nursing Assistant, reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, you will provide support and direct care to the residents in activities of daily living, fostering independence, and promoting individuality, while respecting and protecting each resident’s right to privacy.


Essential Duties include the following:

  • Assist residents in self-administering their medication and/or treatments 
  • Assists residents with Activities Daily Log (ADL) per Individualized Service Plan. Examples of this are, but not limited to transferring, ambulation, dressing, hygiene, toileting, etc.
  • Attends to the individual needs of residents, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating and/or other needs in keeping with the Individualized Service Plan requirements.
  • Takes resident’s vital signs, turns/repositions residents, and lifts residents into beds/wheelchairs as needed. 
  • Supports resident’s participation in scheduled and unscheduled activities. 
  • Monitors residents and environment frequently, noting resident’s condition and response to treatment.
  • Ensures completion of any required documentation in the resident’s medical record.
  • Uses good body mechanics and monitor environmental factors for potential safety hazards daily.
  • Maintains clean, orderly and safe environment for residents and complies with and monitors adherence to infection control and medication policies and procedures.
  • Completes accident and incident reports, and monthly infection control logs according to facility policy.
  • Records information on changes in condition, new orders, incidents, etc. in the communication log.
  • Informs the Director of Nursing, or other appropriate staff regarding changes in resident physical, emotional or behavioral status, orally and via the Stop and Watch tool.
  • Examines residents for signs of injuries/wounds effecting their internal or external bodily functions.
  • Reports defective equipment or potential hazards for repair or immediate remediation.
  • Practices effective health and hygiene habits, personally and while caring for the residents.
  • Protects the personal belongings of each resident, including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing, and memorabilia; promptly reports missing items according to the Company’s policy and participates in efforts to locate missing items.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated compliance with State and Local regulations as well as professional standards and practices.
  • Collaborative team player able to establish effective working relationships with team members.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting a high level of customer service and hospitality towards and among all residents, associates, and visitors.
  • Possess sound organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and with a strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated to accomplish goals with a strong sense of accountability for results.
  • Demonstrated communication excellence, verbally and in writing; comfortable presenting to large groups.
  • Described as dependable with a strong work ethic.
  • Possess an appreciation of seniors and an understanding of the aging process. 
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Degree or GED, required
  • 1-3 years of past experience, preferred
  • Accredited CNA certification, required


Other Qualifications:

  • Must possess a general knowledge of laws and restrictions regarding Assisted Living, Memory Care and Independent Living (where applicable), as well as a solid understanding of opportunities and limits of other levels of care within senior living. 
  • Must exhibit and promote a high level of customer service, hospitality, curiosity and friendliness towards all prospects, residents, visitors, employees and the overall community. 


Computer Skills:

Proficiency and strong ability to use Internet browsers, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word applications.

In the course of performing job duties, the employee will routinely engage in activities such as sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle and feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and hearing. Additionally, there may be occasional requirements for crouching and lifting items weighing up to 50lbs. The employee's specific vision abilities should encompass the capacity to see both near and far distances.
