POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity, assembly and erection of highway signs as needed. Assists in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees. Maintains records of operation. Prepares and maintains daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists.
Operates vehicles and a variety of medium and heavy equipment. Performs preventative maintenance and pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment operated. Performs light maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc.
Performs manual labor in the maintenance of highways, bridges and other highway facilities while utilizing a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools.
Motivates crew members to improve the quality of work performed and assists in the evaluation of others. Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in crew meetings. Trains crew members in basic Maintenance of Traffic.

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
To be in compliance with the District Two Loss Prevention Program, the Florida Department of Transportation Loss Prevention Procedure, and to be aware of reducing personal injury and vehicular accidents.
This position will be required to respond before, during, and following emergency situations. Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be "on-call" (24-hour duty) when necessary.
Possess a valid Class "B" CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
While on-duty status, the positions incumbent must be readily available to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of Commercial Driver's License (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions.
Obtains and maintains certification in Maintenance of Traffic - Intermediate Level.
The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency. One year of experience in infrastructure construction or maintenance is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency. Possess a valid Class "B" CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
