Founding Robotics ML Engineer

About Tuesday

Tuesday Lab builds delightful robots. We are driven by a desire to use the most advanced methods in robotics to bring joy into homes around the world – to make everyday life easier and more fun.

If you got into robotics because you watched old Boston Dynamics videos as a kid, or you made a 3D-printed hobby hexapod after finishing your problem sets, and you take your inspiration more from sci-fi movies than real life, you should come work at the Lab. We are engineers, researchers, builders, life enjoyers. We love living among our creations, and our mission is to make our magical world of animated objects accessible to everyone.

We are a small company sprinting to launch, so you should expect to work very hard – but the reward will be a robot in your home.

Founding Robotics ML Engineer  (In-Office, NYC)

We are seeking a robotics ML engineer to develop advanced whole-body locomotion and manipulation policies for our humanoid robot. You will design and implement a learning-based control architecture to execute artistic, smooth, safe and robust behaviors. This role is critical to our success in deploying delightful, helpful robots into homes – if you deliver, you will be a part of robotics history.

This is a unique role that’s great for someone who wants to be involved early on in a company, making high-impact decisions that will directly determine the success of the robot, and thus, our company.

We’re particularly interested in applicants who have interesting robotics side projects, especially if you’ve made something you yourself use at home.

Responsibilities:

  • Policy Development: Blend and build on top of the latest research to develop locomotion and manipulation policies for our home robot. We’re particularly interested in Disney Research’s “Design and Control of a Bipedal Robot Character” as a starting point for locomotion & behavior

  • Full-stack Engineering: Engineer the full stack, model architecture, data infrastructure design, and testing in sim and on hardware

  • Hardware Integration: Close the sim2real gap for robots built on inexpensive servo motors

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with hardware engineers and character designers to iterate on hardware design

  • Scalability & Reliability: Build solutions that can transition from prototypes to production-ready systems for a consumer product.

Qualifications:

  • Proven Experience: PhD in a relevant field or 4+ years industry experience

  • Hardware Knowledge: Experience training policies on cheap servos; hands-on experience integrating ML algorithms with physical robotics platforms, sensors, and real-time controls.

  • Continuing Learning: Up to date on latest research and industry practices

  • Strong Empirical Skills: Ability to implement, test, analyze and modify your methods quickly

  • Product Focus: You believe in home robots and will do whatever it takes to deliver polished, robust behaviors to our customers

  • Startup Mentality: Tackle a wide range of tasks—beyond ML algorithms—when needed, in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment

  • Location: Ability to work in-office in NYC at least four days a week

If you don’t have these qualifications, but you really want to do this job, you should apply for it anyway. This is a startup: passion and work ethic count for a lot.

What Tuesday offers:

  • The opportunity to play a critical role in deploying robots into the home. This is awesome for people who have thought about becoming founders themselves, or are looking to apply their deep engineering expertise to a high impact career that brings more joy into the world.

  • You will be surrounded by other people like you: people with deep expertise, who love playful applications, and are excited about building the future.

  • PTO, health insurance, 1 flexible remote day per week (we trust that you will work hard no matter what, and we hope this makes it easier for you to do a good job while taking care of your personal needs), a little treat on Tuesdays.
